I was watching live on the telly and comentators kept reffering this fight as semi-pro. And by the way some of the boxers in these WSoB have had pro fights.

it's the world series boxing, his record will be his wsb record. Didn't realise he was only 24 though, hope he does go pro.

There is a boxer from my region in it. you get a 70,000 euro contract for 2 years
+ extra for every win or something. sounds a nice earner for the kid i'm thinking of as he'll do f*** all as a pro.
I don't think that was a pro fight. That guy he was fighting was too good for a first fight anyways.
That was one of those world series of boxing cross over things.
Although I know they are doing away with head gear and changing the scoring style to a professional 10 point system in the ammies. I can't wait for that.
Nothing has been confirmed regarding that yet and if the scoring system is changed it will not be to the pro system I do not believe, it may be a 10 point system but it will still be based on punches landed, so knock downs etc will not factor.

boxrec is the true judge. these fights are not recignised by any pro governing body either, just aiba

it's weird because there are some pro boxers with over 4 pro bouts in the wsb and usually you can not regrade back to amateur after 4 pro bouts. in reality it is just a pro bout really but, in essence the Olympics is as well really considering the quality. Personally as an amateur boxer myself, I hope they do not take away head gear, they prevent cuts and perfurated ear drums.

I've seen the lad box and he is nothing special at all and his style is rather boring which does affect you a lot more in the pros when it comes to promoters. He's been beaten by a few other boxers in our region and from what I have heard beaten up in sparring recently by a now inactive boxer who beat him a few years ago and knocked down recently by another, he was also denied a chance to enter olympic trials from what I have heard, because he was getting beaten up by a GB boxer from lighter weight, so the trails wen to him (other lad failed to qualify).
The lad is a good boxer, don't get me wrong, but he's probably looking at 50-100 grand a year when you factor in the money he is getting for bouts in the wsb, the wsb contract and the team GB podium contract he has now been promoted to. I know a pro boxer the same age who is british champion and has won prizefighter and I don't think he is making anywhere near as much, about 5-10 grand a fight I think, but he would litterally murder this lad who is on GB if they boxed.
If this lad did go pro, he'd start off on undercards, likely getting no more than 1-3 grand a bout (and there are a lot of fees taken off a pro boxers wage) and the highest level I could see him reaching is British title level if he was lucky, but he still would not be a big ticket seller. So to say this lad is getting a lot of money, without all the daft fees pro's pay, simply because he was in a weak weight division and a few guys have turned pro recently, well the kid's basically won the lottery mate.

Interesting. I never knew the wsbs payrate was so high. That definitely is an incentive to stay fighting as an amateur.

Not to mention I've heard from my local gym certain Irish boxers were paid handsomely under the table to stay amateur.
Also, there were reports of 1 million pound contracts being waved under Anthony Joshua's nose. No fucking way he turns down something like that unless someone's matching it.
Also, people should forget that word amateur. I don't think many amateur boxer's should be called amateurs anyway, but once the pro system comes in it'll be a thing of the past. Currently, the best boxers are all fighting under the AIBA and appear to be pretty loyal. Just imagine how stacked the pro HW division would be if even just three boxers, Cammarelle, Ivan Dychko and Joshua turned pro.
Hate to say it but if the new IBA create their own league the current pro HW division won't be able to compete. Soon enough the pros will look like left overs if they don't keep up.
