Kataaro is the company meerkatsu ordered his custom belt from - see his blog post 'worlds most expensive belt'.
All the reviews give good feedback on Kataaro. I really like the chess iconography, really tempted on the blue with rook though my blue belt is nice and worn in and I don't want to tempt fate and order a purple for future use (though I like the knight piece less).
Modern flow and kataaro are US brands, I priced a belt and two tee's and shipping was $16 (just $10 for the belt shipping)
I like the tee more than the belts, if I was paying a premium for a Kataaro belt then I would have it embroidered with my own logo/text etc. But I do like the concept of the designs especially with many people likening bjj to chess.
The only other Meerkatsu tee I have is the Tap Cancer Out 'gentle omoplata' many of the other designs aren't really my style.
Hey guys glad you like the design. Most of the credit has to go to Modern Flow for the art direction, I just drew what they told me to draw. Interesting how much controversy the ranking choices they made on the design. A lot of chess players remarked that the ranks should reflect the power of each piece. We went with chess piece order instead.
I would've thought brown would be the knight just based off the more complex movement versus the bishop.
Pawn - single move - white
Rook - straight line to finding its direction- blue
Bishop - diagonal meaning it's found its own path - purple
Knight - it's like eff moving straight, I'm cutting corners and catching you in strange places - brown
Queen - Can make moves all over the board and never really in much of a bad spot - black
King - slow movement, but that comes with age and wisedom - red
Just my two cents, but the shirt is still pretty dope.
