Not for MMA, how can taking the cage away make it any better? If anything it makes it worse, because it is not as safe. Cage is a safety feature, to take that away would be like taking seatbelts out of cars.

But if the ropes are tight enough, fighters won't be falling out. Also, rings prevent constant circling and wall n stall. Guida vs Maynard could NEVER happen in a ring, it'd be just a matter of time till Guida is cornered and destroyed.
Fighters can still avoid subs though by rushing for the ropes, as seen on the last MFC show in multiple fights. Doesn't matter how many people you hire to hold the fighters or ropes in.

I am not so sure you can't wall and stall in a ring either. Garner/Grishin has the most wall and stall maybe ever and it took place in a ring.

I think the ring has a better visual aesthetic and provides better camera angles, I can definitely see why people who think ring entrances are more important than fights prefer them (not saying that is anyone here) but it's definitely not functional in the same way a cage is.

nothing inanimate should be blamed for that!! ref should penalise track specialists - it's not up to features of the arena to ensure people engage.

How the fight pans out depends on the fighters not the ring or cage. You have no way of know if Maynard vs Guida would have played out differently in a cage or a ring.
