Thats why I roll my eyes everytime the Rock does his shtick of "listen to the people, the people have a voice".
One of the best promos of Punk was when Triple H was implying they didnīt push him before because he wasnīt over and Punk said "really? because at SS 2006 it was DX, the Hardys and me in the ring and people were chanting CM Punk".

It's ridiculous, this is the thinnest the WWE roster has been in a long time, and they're not using guys, and they're firing guys, especially in the run up to the Rumble and WrestleMania.
There's currently FORTY, active full time male wrestlers who aren't injured and are appearing on TV in some form or another, that's a pretty thin roster, especially when they're just willingly leaving guys off TV (Swagger, Ezekiel, Mason Ryan, Johnny Curtis, Alex Riley, Ted DiBiase among others).

This really REALLY shows in their video game honestly. Seriously, it feels like 3/4 of the 100 person roster is old Attitude Era guys with like 4 versions of Mick Foley, 3 of Lita, and like 2 of Edge, 2 of Rock (the warm up suit and then the ring gear look), and a couple other things like this.
Meanwhile, of current superstars guys like Ryback weren't even there at release unless it was as DLC.

Punk also went on to have 3 world title runs before his rant about not being used. There is a difference between never having the opportunity to shine and getting that opportunity and failing at it.

Wasn't McIntyre Vince's chosen one a few years ago?

Yes he was McMahon's chosen one which is why the distance he has "fallen" makes no sense.
And I don't need a wedding storyline TNA. Goddamn.
Sting's face is lols though, this blank "um... am I... I guess I am"

That's Vince for you, he thinks "I made Hulk Hogan, I made Bret Hart, I made Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, The Rock... Dammit, this is what you want!"
Then, when people say "No Vince, we want this". He buries them, jobs them out, takes them off TV and then he says "So, do you want him now?!" And there's another potential star, and millions of Dollars flushed away because that's not what Vince tells you to want.
Case in point, look at Zack Ryder, the guy got himself over, when he's not on the show, people chant "We Want Ryder", when he's on the show, people love him, he shifts a shit tonne of merch, yet Vince isn't happy.
I think that's why I think HHH/Steph will be much better for business than Vince at this point. HHH is no longer on the show, so he's not gonna be cutting the legs out of guys like he did with RVD and others, and, when you listen to former creative team members, even though Steph does produce some suck ass stuff, she fights really hard for the good stuff and Vince just says "Nope".

Is this a case of the business having passed Vince by? Or a case of Vince's ego getting in the way?

Vince's ego.
When he was getting his ass kicked by Bischoff and Turner, he set his ego aside, and deligated resposibility to the talent and to the bookers, and that lead to his most financially successful period ever. Then when he beat Bischoff and Turner, the ego was back and bigger than ever.
