yea I feel on the should have done this when i was younger but when i first started to watch it that was back in 93-94 and it was kind of more brutal imo so i kind of stayed away but with that said it has gotten better more regulated but hey that water under the bridge
anyway I'm 6'2" tall and i was 250 and played soccer in high school and college since your around my height i think 250 would be the best for you

Thanks man. A few fighters at the gym suggested at my height, cutting to 205 or 185, since I might be at a reach disadvantage. But my coaches said because I'm stocky and not the quickest guy around, focusing on BJJ and working on my ground and pound will be my strengths. Once again, we'll see as I progress.

I think the number one rule of fighting is: Don't be small.
HW 265 is pretty big and it is unlikely many people will be in peak shape at that weight.
Roy Nelson for example would be insane at LHW, but at HW is just good.
As a solid guy with heavy hands you would be fairly sutiable to dirty boxing against the cage in my opinion.
I am 6'2", 76 reach, and fight at LW.
This is about right for me as I have never in my life been above 180pounds and I was 136 at this height for many years (I know this is unusual) but I say this to show that no matter what there will be guys taller and rangier than you, In fact it would be my presumption so train accordingly.

I know what you mean. I weighed 185 when I was in the Marine corps, and when I see those old pics, my arms looked like twigs and I really had a pencil neck. Most of the amateur HW's i've watched in this area like to stand and pound. So like you said, if I can just pin them against the cage and pound, I'd be pretty effective I think.
Coach talked to my Dr. and gave me a workout program, don't know details yet, other than he said light cardio like recumbant bike and treadmill 3 days a week for hte next 4 weeks. I get x-rays again then we'll go from ther.

Sounds about right.
Jealous of you doctor and trainer sharing knowledge, that is a damn good asset.
Good luck.

thanks and they are. THe gym owner gave me a short list of things he wants to see before he puts me in a smoker. Wants me to drop weight to 260. Get proficient to his satisfaction at BJJ and Muay Thai. THen from there, he wants me to do some no gi tournaments and a smoker. He won't put me in the cage until he knows I"m ready.
