Who is blaming Lloyd for this particular case? No-one, he can't control his students 24 hours a day, no-one is expecting him to.
I think people are more pissed at the way he's posted up rape prevention videos at the most inappropriate time possible and was seemingly involved in a rape case 20 years ago or so, seems like he got off on a technicality and is now teaching women how to defend against rape?
I think that's kind of sick, and shows you what type of guy he really is.

I have no doubt, and I'm not trying to be the police of good conduct, just saying the context here makes rape jokes not okay in this thread. Common sense should tell people that, but sometimes people forget.

1) The story posted in the OP mentioned TLI exactly once. The school was the common thread between the victim and her attackers. It was how they knew each other. Especially with TLI being one of the more famous BJJ schools in the country, that's not out of line at all.
2) If they all went to the same college, yes, that would have been mentioned. For evidence, note that in the 1990 case, it mentioned the name of the college that Lloyd and the other defendants attended.
3) Statutory rape is quite different from what happened in this case. The criminal element of statutory rape is that the victim is too young to legally consent. That doesn't necessarily mean that anybody was forced to do anything.

That information about Lloyd Irvin being involved in that rape case is FLAT OUT DISTURBING.
Seriously?? Wow. I'm not gonna harp on this one, but he teaches rape prevention courses and has many people(male & female) looking up to him, with trust and confidence in him as a mentor.
Just not something I expected from him or his past..
But on to the rape and athletes subject, is there not any humility or gentleman in sports anymore??
Its kind of similar to what we've seen in thousands of other recent rape cases involving HIGH LEVEL ATHLETES and emerging sports stars, they think they are "better" than the rest and get carried away with the ego-inflating environments they are being brought up in..But those are athletes making millions of dollars, not some guys training at TLI lol...
Not like these guys are making millions of dollars or something, but how can they be so out of touch with reality to do such a thing?? Horribly sick and twisted and my best prayers go out for the girl.

BTW...another thing is that we really don't know much facts."Brutally raped" bring up images of two guys dragging a woman in a garage and raping her while she is screaming for help. Keep in mind that NYE, all 3 could have been drunk and walked to that garage. She might have been intoxicated and had oral sex with both guys without ever saying No.In that scenario, they could be charged with rape and i've heard about that very scenario dozens of times in college. The idea that she was drunk and they left her there isn't really that rare either. Not saying either way happened, but lets wait till the facts come out before we judge.

I've done a little more digging, and it appears that Lloyd was extremely lucky to avoid serving prison time for his involvement in that gang rape.
According to the last article I can find, there was a series of trials for the men in the apartment that night. Let's compare what happened to the men who were tried:
1) Terrence C. Gatling - Convicted of sodomy and received a 7-year prison sentence. He successfully appealed his conviction, but was supposed to be retried. It's unclear whether that ever happened.
2) Charles H. Smith - Convicted of both rape and sodomy, sentenced to 10 years.
3) Michael P. Thomson - Convicted of both rape and sodomy, sentenced to 10 years.
4) John H. Scales III - Pleaded guilty to rape in exchange for receiving a 5-year suspended sentence.
5) Lloyd E. Irvin Jr. - Acquitted after testifying he wanted to have sex with the girl after most of the other men, but wasn't able to get an erection.

I'm sorry but if this is even remotely true and LI was hanging with these guys, I just can't look at him with the same respect and,, I guess admiration? at some point.
Now not so much...
