The blades I use cost like 7 cents a blade. Compare that to the multiple dollars per cartridge for Mach 3, Fusion, etc. It can make a big difference.
Using a single sharp blade instead of 3 or 4 or even 5 blades can be easier on people's skin, too. The soaps also. Most soaps have less crap in them than the aerosol gels and can be cheaper. A puck of soap will cost me more than a can of edge but will also last way longer. On top of working better, it's becomes cheaper in the end.
You'll also have people who just like the idea of shaving a little more traditional. Personally, I'm just concerned about the money. If a modern cartridge lasts you two months then it might be hard to understand. For the people who have to truly shave, switching to a DE razor can make a big difference.

couldn't say it better.
reason i switched, was because i was so tired of the multi blades irritating the hell out of my skin. causing some bumps/ingrown hairs etc.
I don't get any of that anymore.
you can get 100 DE blades for about $18 (incredible quality as well), those last a year. compared to the fusion 4 pack of blades that's about $13.
it's really a convenience thing for me, i always have blades now and i went ahead and bought 2 shaving creams that way i don't have to worry about it until a long time from now.
@brampton boy, thanks man. I'm trying to get better at making those.

^that commercial is hilarious. too bad they don't sell DE blades.
one thing i will say that's not so great about wet shaving is that you will become addicted to products, specially razors and brushes
i have a brush on the way, and i will probably go get a boar brush later today (just to try it)
i have four razors already, and i'm definitely gonna be getting more.
My goal is to have 100 of them before i turn 40. but once i find my birth year razor, i'll calm down a bit.

And if you think that's bad, I just paid 28 euros for 4 Gillette Proglide's. 1 last for about 2, max 3 weeks.

nice to see this still going.
here is a soap i received by mistake:
it was supposed to be valobra almond. they said keep the soap, here is a refund, feel free to order again with free 1 day shipping. so I did. should be here tomorrow.
the soap is fine. same quality lather as the valobra stick. not a huge menthol kick like i was expecting. my proraso white feels more menthol-y.
i also ordered 100 astras for ~$9. can't beat less than 10c a blade.

that's nice.
i got a few extra astra blades the other day (with my order), so i emailed the guy and he said he always sends extra packs with a shipment. He also said he appreciated the honesty.
i need to try that proraso soap, since i've only used the proraso creams. Well, technically it's from C.O bigelow, but made by proraso.
i wanna try both of these, along with the green versions:
