Traditional Martial Art?

Miyagi! Now drop your jacket, now hang it up, now put it back on, now drop your jacket again.

I'm really impressed with my daughter's Kempo class, it's very generic a bit of everything, a bit too generic in my opinion but I feel as if years of practice will give you more then other TMA's...

If you really want to do MMA, specialize. BJJ, wrestling, muay thai or boxing. That's a real solid base. Whatever you do though, do 100%

Any style that utilizes practical kata application. The kata in karate were always a collection of techniques specifically to be utilized for self defense, so if the instructor teaches the applications of these techniques and they are drilled in an alive manner, that's what you want. Unfortunately, this is not style specific, although you are not very likely to find it in Japanified styles like Shotokan. Okinawan styles tend to have (or have access to) teachers who know application, so at that point you just need to find instructors who drill it realistically.

Any style is good for competing, if you are competing in that style. In general, though, styles like Shotokan, Kyokushin, Enshin, etc. are typically ideal for competitive sparring.

I would say that Naha-te styles like Goju-Ryu and Uechi-Ryu are probably the most physically intense.
