According to Schaefer, the last remaining obstacle in making the fight is the IBF. Cloud has a mandatory title defense due against Karo Murat. Schaefer says he has submitted a request to the IBF, with the blessing of Sauerland Event (which promotes Murat) and Don King (Cloud), that outlines a scenario where the winner of Hopkins-Cloud will defend the title against Murat in the next fight.

• Wondering why Sergio Martinez is fighting Martin Murray in Argentina next month? Money, a truckload of it. According to sources familiar with the situation, the Argentine government is paying Martinez $5 million to hold his next fight in his home country. Martinez’s popularity in Argentina has grown exponentially in recent years, but monetizing a fight there, where a live gate wouldn’t generate much income, has been considered problematic. With the government offering that kind of guarantee, it becomes worth it.

• The California State Athletic commission is reaching out to boxers who may be eligible for a $5.1 million pension fund. To qualify, a boxer must be at least 50 years old, have fought at least 10 rounds a year for four years without more than a three-year break, and had a minimum of 75 scheduled professional rounds without a break of three years or more.

“The Athletic Commission wants to locate eligible boxers in order to pay them the benefits they have rightfully accrued,” said State Athletic Commission executive officer Andy Foster. “Any assistance in getting the word out would be greatly appreciated and would be a service to the athletes who gave so much to entertain the people of the State of California.”

Olympic gold medal winner Rakhim Chakhkiev (16-0, 12KOs) is looking for a title shot in 2013. He recently had minor elbow surgery to remove a few bone fragments that were causing him pain.

He wants to land a shot at the WBC cruiserweight king Krzysztof Wlodarczyk of Poland. Wlodarczyk is reportedly facing former champion Jean-Marc Mormeck in the first quarter of the new year.

Chakhkiev was training with American coach Tommy Brooks but now says that his promoter, Universum, hired a new trainer. He never revealed the trainer's name but says the coach worked with Cuban gold medal winners Yuriorkis Gamboa and Odlanier Solis.

"Brooks is no longer in my camp. This coach did not suit us. [Universum] already signed a strong Cuban professional who worked with Yuriorkis Gamboa and Odlanier Solis. Generally, it is extremely difficult to find the right coach," he said.

Wagon has not filled up, plenty of seats available.

December 27, 2012 - Undefeated cruiserweight contender, Lateef Kayode (18-0, 14 KOs), who fights under the Gary Shaw Productions promotional banner, will now be campaigning at the Heavyweight division.

"Kayode is a heavy handed puncher who can easily bring his power up to the heavyweight division," said Gary Shaw. "Right now my matchmaker John Beninati is looking at potential opponents and we are confident Lateef will be successful moving up in weight."

"We made a lot of headway campaigning as a cruiserweight," said Kayode's manager Steve Feder. "Considering the fact that we appeared more times on Shobox then any other cruiser in a decade, in a division far more suited for the European market, ultimately our options since the Tarver debacle have diminished."

"The IBO completely ignored our ranking when granting Green a title shot, not allowing Kayode to challenge. At this point, the heavyweight division which we fought our first nine fights in. seems to be calling. Lateef is in the gym and feels very strong at his new weight. We expect to preview back at heavyweight in February.

I like Dallas Jr but he already got blitzed by one of my favorite fighters in Josesito. Now he's gonna get destroyed by another one of my favorites. Poor Mike.
