Sorry mate but it won't, most of these guys practice at home and train in the gym.

I'm not planning to try train myself. I don't know what i'm doing. I intend to start taking classes in a month or two. I just wanted to hear about other peoples experience of self training.

my kid brother and i first learned jiu jitsu from a book called "mastering jiu-jitsu" by renzo gracie,we would drill every move in the book and then roll against each other for 2-3 hours per day for 3 months straight... i then did challenge matches in jiu jitsu with my friends and beat them and beat some of my friends that did wrestling in high school for years... then after years of training at home i entered a no gi tournament and the owner of the gym saw me warming up with friend that went there and he told my friend not to train with me because i "looked like i learn from youtube" but i won first place in the tournament!! her is the finals from that day http://youtu.be/3zBNTdIt8hw

Roy Nelson does, it got him pretty far.

I work basic things by myself when I am not at the gym, combos on the bag, sprawl drills, etc. Nothing replaces training with partners though.

Ya I hear ya. I didn't start this thread to see if I could fully self train at home. I'm just interested to hear other peoples stories.

Not really. Don't have to give people money to learn a skill.

TS, learn as much as you can. Self train when ya have to and always spar with people better than you if possible.
