Up to him really. But if he wants the world, and wants the fame, the money and to be considered one of the best... the UFC is the place. He's not getting that ANYWHERE else in MMA.
Pretty much this. I would lose respect for Alvarez if he stays in Bellator. He would be admitting "hey, I like to beat up lesser competition and I don't think I'd do that well in the big leagues".

Perhaps he should pad his record in Bellator for another year, win 12 fights in a year.

Nope! They are legally required to re-sign with Bellator if the offer gets matched.

"Like many other MMA promotions, Bellator includes a "matching clause" in their contracts that obligate a fighter to re-sign if they're able to match a competitor's offer."

and from what i understand, if Bellator matches that offer, contacts stipulate they're binded.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but that's what I seem to recall reading. It basically gives Bellator the chance to make the final call, which was what seemed to really irk White.

It's like, if the UFC REALLY wants someone, they need to bid high enough to all but guarantee that Bellator isn't in a position to match, otherwise negotiations can end RIGHT there if Bellator matches.

Whether I read and recall that properly or not... well, I'm not 100% sure. Haven't really read much on the debacle since the news broke.

I think we all know Eddie WANTS to fight in the UFC, which means, IMO, it's not as simple as him saying "ehh, I'm going to go this way, regardless of what happens with the contract."

I think if it was that simple, he'd already have signed.

He makes a lot of money in Bellator. Sometimes being a big fish a small pond is a good thing, from a financial standpoint. It's why some guys don't come to the UFC, if it ain't broke don't fix it I guess.

From what I've understood, it's more like restricted free agency. Bellator can match the contract offer and bring him back.

No problem! It just would not have made sense if it was just that the fighter had to entertain looking at the offer. Everyone would immediately just go to the UFC.

I don't think it's up to Eddie. Bellator can match whatever the UFC offers if they choose to.

Really, it's up to the UFC to outbid Bellator. If they can't do that, they either don't want Eddie that bad or they're in worse financial trouble that we've been led to believe.

It's all about the money. I don't think he could care less about what you or anybody else on Internet forums think. You have to do what's best for yourself and your family.

Plus if the UFC can't beat Bellator's offer, it's not Eddie's choice of whether to stay or go to the UFC. If Eddie stays in Bellator blame the UFC for not paying up.
