Post K-1, Superkombat and WAKO reach worldwide cooperation agreement

MONDAY, 24 DECEMBER 2012 12:58

If you didn't notice at the SuperKombat WGP 2012 Finals on Saturday, Eduard Irimia of SuperKombat, Mike Kim of K-1 and Ennio Falsoni of WAKO were all in attendance. They were all there to sign and announce a worldwide cooperation agreement between the three companies. Details of the agreement are outlined in the document below.

Well we already knew K-1 and Superkombat had an alliance, what exactly does WAKO bring to the table?

From the look of the document, logistics, breeding ground for talents and Olympic spot.

Glory needed an agreement with SuperKombat. K-1 at the moment has nothing to offer for the heavyweight division. They do have some nice talent in the MAX division though, but with Murthel's (and another k-1 max finalist) departure to Glory, that fields starts to get thin as well.

His name is Gunil Kim. So it"s very legit. Mike is only a nickname. If you think he didn"t sign :

First 8-9 heavyweights in Glory are very good but the promotion could have filled the rest of the spots with the creme from the Superkombat (Lascenko, Cătinaş, Moroşanu, Zhuravlev, Londt). And I don"t understand why Gerges wasn"t signed and why wasn"t Kyotaro convinced to stick to kickboxing. And why is Spong not taking part in the tournament. I guess Tyrone will never return mainly to kickboxing, only some appearances when he"s not involved in the MMA events.

Glory IS better than the Superkombat but the two organizations could have worked together. Not to mention the SK also has the Stoicas, Adegbuyi and some other talented youngsters, probably Samedov too in the future. In the K-1 there are also Edwards and Jaideep. In the current conditions, without Gerges who could have been signed because he was of Rutz and without Kyotaro and Spong, Glory needed some fighters from the SK / K-1. The Glory Tokyo Grand Slam quarterfinals will be unpredictable but the first 16 bouts are pretty predictable. This wasn"t normal in the past in K-1.

Glory = Champions League, Superkombat = Europa League, so as a big kickboxing (K-1) fan I"m watching both. Glory has better rating but the SK is also very respectable with good coverage, having sometimes some fighters from the first 8 in the world like Gerges in the last event. Zimmerman and Verhoeven were also there both about 2 times before being signed to Glory. Ghiţă was launched there.

That's why i said that, SK has some nice talent. Obviously not as good as Semmy, Aerts, Spong, Ghita, Saki, Zimmerman but certainly good enough to replace quite a few guys from Glory's Final16! Spong had an excuse for not participating but i can't recall it at the moment.

Oh, one more thing, K-1's past Final16's were pretty predictable as well. Not as predictable as Glory's Final16 this year, but they weren't 50/50 fights surely
