That

They might not be best for hypertrophy. But personally, my biceps have been strongest when I was doing strictly chins as opposed to strictly curls (for bicep work)

I said weighted chins so you can get some real work in while you're trying to look pretty.

Me personally I've never done direct bicep curls, but if you looked at my physiqe you'd say I have the torso and the legs of a middleweight and the arms of a lightweight. Now thats not to say people who dont do direct bicep work arent gonna be dispreportionate, they may have huge arms, but for some people it doesnt work like that.

When I do pullups my arms are always first to give, therefore in the new year I'm going to add some barbell curls once probably maybe twice a week because they are an area I truly need to work on, not everyone curls for girls. Also while it may be irrelevant, but I say this to back up the fact that using barbell curls and directly hitting your biceps isnt just for pansys, I know for a fact that a few boxers do/have used bicep curls, I've also seen videos of some top Judokas using bicep curls.

I do think the majority of the time people just curl for big biceps and have no interest in becoming stronger, but there are those of us who simply need work in that department to becoming stronger/help out or athleticism.

I plan to start simply with 3x8 bb curl once a week and see where it takes me, obviously as an assistance to the real work.

Chins don't stress the biceps at their full extension. Jim Wendler does curls.

Are you freakin serious? If you hit your biceps more often than not they'll grow bigger than not.

The pretentious attitude towards anyone even muttering bicep and or hypertrophy in here is laughable. As I have said I know top athletes who train their biceps, are they mirror whores? No. S+C is not narrowed down to squat deadlift and bench.

If someone says, help I want huge biceps to impress the girls at the club, then sure take to your keyboard and give them shit if they post it on here. TS didnt ask this. If they ask how to build a muscle for strength reasons then whats the problem? IT IS AN ASSISTANCE EXCERCISE!

i agree.
fuck,it even used to be a main movement in powerlifting too
that being said, many top benchers think direct upper arm flexor work is important for a strong as fuck bench.

i do barbell curls against a wall for 3 sets of 6-12 reps, and hammer curls a few days later , seated for 3 x 6-12

There are far more effective methods of building "brocep" strength than watching yourself curl in the mirror. I will admit sometimes people go over-the-top with flaming but the reality is most, if not all regulars here are just trying to help inform; in their own way. But, beyond the silly gifs, and "drink milk, and squat' references, there are very important lessons.

Maybe building your biceps for asthetics is not something we should be discussing in this forum, since it is a Strenght & Conditioning forum, and not a body building forum, so most of your responses will be in hopes that the TS becomes informed. Siince (if memory serves me correctly) TS is looking for information concerning brocep strength; chin-ups (weighted or not), pull-ups, heavy rows, etc.., are all much more effective than curling in the mirror...

I use to be a curl monkey in the gym, but if you MMA train stick with pull ups. They will grow but not too much..

Biceps are more genetic than anything,so some people just have bigger peaks others don't.
