What styles of mma should I focus on?

Hey everyone, so I've recently decided after a long time fan that I am interested in training and eventually competing in mma. I joined a Gracie school last week and so far I really enjoy it. Basically I created this thread to ask for the opinion of fellow mma fans, what styles of fighting in your opinion would create the most success for a fighter who will have a significant height and reach disadvantage? Thanks guys!

Wouldnt fighters with height and reach advantage focus on muay thai?

this is not boxing. reach statistics largely are a vestigial statistic leftover from that sport. there is no inherent disadvantage to a lower center of gravity and a bit shorter limbs.

it will help you in wrestling, strength, sub defense, top control, passing guard, punching power with hooks, dirty boxing, ect

you should be a wrestler/power puncher. shorter guys tend to be bully type fighters per weight class to use their strength, wrestling advantage and explosive power with the added muscle they can stack on

Chinese Boxing! .... brucelee.gif

Striking. If you have reach advantage then you better be able to use your natural gift. Jones is good, Struve... not so much but definitely getting better. Watch the leg kicks and overhands. You will need some kind of grappling in the form of TDD and learning how to shrug people off or spin out if they try to tie you up. Elbows and knees are your friends!

He said he fights like he's 4ft, not that he is 4ft.

It really depends who you're fighting and how you want to fight. If you're going to fight someone whose jiu jitsu is very good, you might want to keep the fight off the ground and vice versa
