Also to say that smaller divisions are easier is stupid, if that was the case then Masters and Seniors would be the easiest class to fight in since they literally only have 1 or 2 fights.
Firstly, I'm not insulting the heavy weight division at all (I'm 95kg and fight at heavyweight myself). I said half of the super heavyweights are fat-asses, which they are in my experience.

Not quite as hard as lightweight but it is by far more difficult than heavy/superheavy

My first blue belt tournament at 136lbs had 17 guys in the division where I had to have 5 matches for the gold, and this was in a local tournament that was nothing special so try and imagine bigger tournaments that are much more competitive

Oh true, here in Queensland Australia the lightest weights have about the same amount as the heaviest, in other countries it is obviously a bit different

That's true, but I can also tell you its frustrating rolling with a guy that outweighs you by 100 lbs in your weight class.

If you have two people of fairly equal skill, having 100 lbs of dead weight (even if its fat) can be huge advantage. There are certainly guys that are close to 300 lbs that have very low body fat, but they are usually pretty ungainly.

This is only my experience at very low level local tournaments, but following the same ibjjf weight classes.

Ultra heavy is obviously the hardest weight division.

If it weren't, then why would anyone bother to cut weight?

Hardest:
1)Light
2)Middle
3)Feather

Easiest:
1)Super Heavy
2)Rooster

This is from the standpoint of number of competitors ans skill level displayed. Roosters have great skill but often only have 1 or 2 matches for Gold(if any). Light and middle routinely have 5 matches for Gold and everyone looks really athletic with alot of skill.

I think there's this weird stigma that people assign to super-heavyweight. Yes there are undoubtedly some fat asses. But in my experience, most of it is tall and stocky guys. I weigh in at almost 300 lbs, but I'm 6"7'. The guys I've competed with are usually 6'3"+ and anywhere from 225 lbs up. True, it's hard to be as mobile as a lightweight, but mobility =/= technical prowess. Just like there are a lot of lightweights that might be able to scramble quickly but are inefficient in their movement, there are also a lot of us super-heavyweights that are very technical with our guard games, our guard passes, our sweeps, our escapes, and our top control. It's us technical super-heavyweights that scare the bejeezus out of everyone else.

When you say super-heavyweight do you mean Super Super Heavyweight or Ultra Heavyweight?

In IBJJF Ultra Heavyweight is the heaviest weight class.

Ultra Heavyweight: over 221.0 lbs (+100.5 kg)
Super Heavyweight: under 221.0 lbs (-100.5 kg)

You would think Ultra Heavyweight would be tough as the it's the weight class with unlimited weight differences while all the other weights are limited to 9-21 pounds of weight difference. In the Ultra Heavyweight's that 222 pound guy could get stuck with a 500 pound Sumo wrestler.

I'm 6'3" and 275 pounds and thinking of competing in the IBJJF worlds next year. I'm 49 so it would be in the Senior 3 division. No way could I cut to <222.

Here I am three months ago at 268 pounds without a GI on.
