Fuck that, I'm bored and have five more hours to kill at work.
Ahmed Johnson got fired for fucking guys up doing "wrestling moves". He worked too stiff. Nothing to do with weapons. A botched wrestling move, is far more dangerous than a chair shot.
Like I said, chair shots aren't deadly, and hardly the worst thing any wrestler has gone through. Guys have jumped off of 20ft ladders onto concrete, in the WWE. Think of the dangers thumbtacks pose to your eyes, or testicles, and the WWE in the hardcore days, still used them.
I just don't get why you think it's so unbelievable. If we were talking about crowbars, or baseball bats, then yes, they have to let up or they'll kill the other guy. A chair is a chair though. They have plenty of give to them. It would probably hurt more, if a guy did let up. Kind of like smashing a beer bottle over your head. If it doesn't break, it's hurts a fuckload more.
I have thought a bit about it. I'll give in a little. The chairs could be swung quite hard without risking too much. Shane O Mac probably ran the risk of serious injury far harder than any chair shots. Like that Kurt Angle street fight and jumping from the fuckin Titantron onto Big Show. BUT, would there be any risk taking the chair shot if the chair were crumbled and all edgey? I still think The Rock could literally cave your skull in with the wrong swing of a fucked up chair.

I remember watching that match. It was fucking brutal.

Oddly enough, Steel Chairs are usually actual steel chairs, because they pull them out of the crowd, but they hit it with the flat seat part, on the side of the head, and they tend to "glance" it, so it makes the noise, without the impact, a bit like a boxer rolling with punches.
Kendo sticks are real too, as are the Sledgehammers, they experimented with a rubber sledgehammer to they could actually hit each other, but the rubber one was causing more injuries. Ladders are real because they need to support the weight of a big guy climbing up them.
Now, the tables, they're just pressed sawdust or chip board, so they break, garbage cans are tin foil, and bats are usually rubber.
But, with most "weapons", you tend to see the same thing every time, jab it to the gut, or a smack on the back.
