i got kicked in the face , knocked out , woke up when my ass hit the floor finished the round , fought another 2 rounds . i went into the change room and started getting warmed up to fight again and my coach asked me why im getting ready , i had already just fought . i didnt believe him at all ,
that turned into the big joke at the club ,, i fight better when im sleeping than when im awake .

It only attracts a few hard core gym rats. We all leave bloody, guys have gotten their noses smashed in, etc.

Why the hell would you go there. I love fighting and sparring but I would never do that kind of sparring, it's just asking for health problems

My brain was still 'on' and I could hear, but my lights went out and I went down. I have no idea what to call that.

Its a voluntary, after-hours thing. During regular gym hours, it's a regular gym.
I think the guys who do it just do it to test themselves. Some probably do it too often (weekly). I don't do it on a regular basis.- perhaps once a month mostly because I enjoy fighting, but really have no interest in doing it for the entertainment of other people which seems to be the only option, ala sanctioned MMA bouts.
Also: woke up this morning and my damn ears were ringing.

I've been knocked down multiple times in sparring. Almost all of them were my fault. Shit like turning away from punches when I first started accounts for like 6-7 of the 9 times I have been put on my butt or back.
Only once or twice have I been put down from something that I don't think I was responsible for. Unless being fucking exhausted after 3 rounds of constant pressure (5 minute rounds) from a fresh guy every minute is completely my fault, was dropped with a body shot in those instances.
Honestly, getting knocked down a couple times really helped to show me what I was doing wrong. Granted, I couldn't change things immediately but still, it helped to show me what I could change.

It's not a tickling competition. You are trying to hurt each other. How long did you really think you could last in that type of environment without getting KO'd or injured?

I saw stars once or twice sparring in boxing, but kept my feet. I cant breath through my nose well so leave my mouth open out of habit sometimes. Its something I need to work on.

Then, he stands back up real slow, tired eyes, tears start pouring, he's spitting blood and pointing at his head, "Man, I already had a concussion." This turns into, "you better kill me, I ain't leaving." and he picks a fight with another bouncer.
Is that "kind of KO'ed?"

Nah, that's just a regular Saturday night.

Happens bro. I've been knocked out and knock down several times. Sometimes by guys levels above me. Sometimes guys around my level. Once against a guy who isn't as experienced as me.

knockouts/ knockdowns happen in sparring its the nature of the practice. But if you are training at a place where you get knocked down and people are coming to see if your ok thats 1. unsafe and 2. a sign that you are training in a gym that not supportive. When someone gets their bell rung we check it out immediatly if they are out and after the round if they seem ok. none of that OOOHHHH bullshit either we are all trying to build each other up and I hope you surround yourself with people who do the same. Its just better training that way.
