From a business stand point it makes perfect sense why they wouldn't place him against Trout, or Lara or another potentially dangerous unknown fighter.

Schaefer said that he prefers matching Miguel Cotto up with Canelo instead. As for Trout, Schaefer feels that he needs at least three possibly four fights before he can maybe get a shot against Canelo.

So he basically says he doesnt want Trourt near Canelo for the next 2-3 years lol.
