Just recovered from flu. Can I fight 5 days from today?

So I got hit by the flu last week. I wasn't able to go to work for three days. I've been on bed rest for the last 5 days and am now not showing any signs of fever and headache anymore.

Only thing bothering me up to now is sore throat and my muscles still seem to be weak/fatigued. I have an upcoming ammy muay thai fight this coming Saturday, do you guys think I may be able to fight?

I'm hoping that once I have recovered my muscle strength and feel confident that I can train, I'll most likely train this Wednesday or Thursday to check if I could make it on Saturday.

I know some may say that I may lack training, but please note that I've been training extensively for the last 2 months and my last fight was just 2 weeks ago. Only thing I'm worried about is if I would regain my full energy back by Saturday.

Kindly give me your thoughts on this.

Thanks.

Flu wise your fine. It will take about 5 days of regular activity to recover the strength lost for every day of bed rest. You make the call

3 years ago, I was back in Bjj practice the same day I took the last Tamiflu pill. I was weak as a kitten though...

I think not few fighters get some sort of flu or cold week or two before a fight. I think a lot of hard training can weaken you. 5 days could be enough for you to recover and maybe perform even better cause you'll have enough rest...

You can't get a great answer here. You have to listen to your body. Chances are you are going to be a fraction of yourself. You need more time for your body to recover from something like that. But you could still fight. You just might be a little noodley in the limbs. If you get knocked out, you're going to be pissed you didn't wait. But be sure to tell us if it happens.

I thought this was going to be a thread ripping Michael Chiesa.

Thanks for the feedbacks.

Yeah pretty much it would depend on my "feel" come fight day.

Anyway the setup in the tournament on Saturday will most likely be a same day weigh in and match ups so there's no need to be like Michael Chiesa calling in sick. lol

Short answer: yes. I've done it (boxing, not MT).

That being said, you won't be at your best. You might feel full strength, but if it's an intense fight, your strength will quickly diminish. You might even feel weaker at the end of the first round.

What's more, you shouldn't be doing any intense training in the couple days before your fight, so you won't even know just how bad it is until you are actually in the ring.

As has been said above, you will be a fraction of yourself. If that fraction is 95%, wonderful. If it's 70%, then it's not so wonderful. My personal opinion is that you shouldn't. The only fights of mine that I regret taking, win or lose, are the ones that I went into without being at or near my best. That's just me though. I wish I had set a limit of feeling 90% or better for all of my prior fights.

This isnt a question to ask us because we dont know how you feel. You know the best so just go by what you believe and ask yourself if you feel good to fight and not weak. Good Luck
