Nick diaz vs gomi

I was watching some pride fights and theres a few question I had about that fight. That was one of the best fights ever but I wanna kno why the put Diaz against gomi when it was nicks pride debut and gomi was the current light weight champ?? And another question is why did gomi keep his hands down pretty much the whole and let nick tee off on him?? I know he wasn't that tired to where he couldn't even put his hands up.

Gomi has a solid chin, especially during that time; besides Diaz wasn't really thought of as an great striker by Gomi if I recall correctly. It was a non-title bout, so I assume that Pride thought it would be an exciting fight for the fans in a fight Gomi was expected to win

Yeah you also have to remember that that was a big turning point for Nick. He was a good fighter before that, but he struggled in a lot of fights.

I haven't seen it in a while but didn't Gomi beat the shit out of Nick in the standup and Gomi was telling the ref to check Nick's face? Plus, Gomi puts his hands down pretty often.

Just got finished watching this fight again. Gomi was gassed from haymakers and also Nick's punches were his standard pitty pat volume shots that don't really hurt you, but will accumulate damage over time and I really doubt Gomi respected Nick's striking back then.

He landed one huge shot, and maybe a couple other solid shots.

Other than that, Gomi was getting his shit pushed-in in the standup.

i remember the run up to that fight, thinking, this is the worst possible match-up for gomi. i remember that fight was the first time i'd ever seen Nick Diaz dropped though. I wonder how much the weed had to do with him making it through that.

They set the fight up because Nick was supposed to be a feeder-fight for Gomi.

Gomi was the #1 guy in the world and was expected to win, by almost everyone.
