Which boxing shoes to get?

Hey guys I was wondering of I should get the Tygun II, Nike Machomai, or the Box Champ Speed II? Please let me know why you pick one over the others and if you know of a shoe that's better than the ones listed above!

Ive had the Tygun IIs and mine wore out fairly quickly, but then again I have friends who have had theirs for months of daily use and they're still in great shape so maybe I was just unlucky. Also had a friend with the Box Champ Speed IIs which he's just retired after a year of daily use. Billboxing sells a good looking pair in blue or black or red for $100 through his email billboxing@aol.com you might be interested in as an alternative. see http://i.cubeupload.com/TdP22k.jpg

I've used the Tygun II and the Machomai.

The Tyguns wore out reasonably quickly, but the Machomai wore out ridiculously fast. To be fair, the Machomai is really just a competition shoe and not for every day training.

So which would you recommend?

Hey Blair,
How can you tell whether a shoe is for competition or for training?

To TS: I've worn box hogs for a year now and are still going strong. Note that orders are in uk size.

If I had to choose between the two I'd go with the Tyguns. But I think there's better boots out there as well.

Is there a certain price range your working with? Or do you prefer high cut or low cut boots?

I heard the Machomai were mostly for competition when I bought them online, when they arrived I felt that was a pretty good call because they are extremely lightweight and thin, which is great for when your in the ring but I just don't think they'd hold up to everyday training very well (especially for the price).

I don't think there's really a "training" shoe or a "competition" shoe though, it mostly depends on how you use them and how good the materials are.

Just my .02

My price range is anything up to $200 and I prefer high cut but if there is a excelent low cut shoe then I would buy it

For the money, the Ringside "Undefeated" boots are hard to beat.

I really like the Cleto Reyes boots, they aren't very flashy but they are beautiful quality:

I really like Asics footwear too, and if you've got the money the Asics boxing boots made in Japan are hands down the best shoes I've ever seen. They're amazing.

You can get them from the Winning website but Rakuten has them cheaper here:

Are boxing shoes superior to normal trainers(running shoes)? I have been training without one and my adidas running shoes have been quite good for me. For the price of a decent pair of boxing shoes i would rather buy a pair of boxing gloves. I have no experience with boxing shoes. So do you guys strongly recommend boxing shoes? For your information i don't train for competitions but for self defense purposes.
