I still don't see why Chavez wasn't more effective. He should have won that fight.
Inexperience. He was probably intimidated and afraid to step on the gas. That's what happens when you go from Andy Lee to one of the best fighters on the planet.
If cotto has anything left as a top shelf fighter ....I think he takes trout; trout seems to want fight on the outside; personally I don't think he is good enough to do so, an I don't think he has an effective inside game. If so he would have switched gears against delving ..instead of maintaining range and chipping away. As good a boxer as trout is we have to remember cotto can box too and under Diaz has gotten back to his boxing routes...esp his jab which is one of the best out there.
Finally trout wants to make a statement...not win a boring decision; he will be looking to get cotto out of there for that reason and because he isnt sure he can win a Dec in NY. So he will get out of pocket and will pay for it.
He wasn't though. Don't get me wrong, I gave Chavez 2 rounds but he was in the exchanges, he just didn't press.
I think he was too slow; but he could have made up for that by consistently throwing and putting a body on Sergio instead of letting Martinez come and go as he pleases.... not saying Sergio didn't do good work; but Jr didn't assert himself.
