Appropriate Dieting Age?

Hi guys, it's been a while since I last posted.

I'm 17 years old, I weigh 158, and I train at Coban's Muay Thai Camp 4-5 times a week. Several months back, a member of this forum suggested that I simply eat clean, and eat as much as possible, since I am still young and growing. I've come back for a second opinion and to revisit this question. Do you guys think I would be okay doing something like Intermittent Fasting, or keto/paleo etc. etc. at my age? If so, what would you guys recommend?

EDIT: forgot to mention.
-I train from 5:30 PM to 6:30 or 7:30, so 1-2 hours per day.
-I eat breakfast at 6:30 AM, lunch at 11:30 AM, and dinner after my commute, anywhere from 7:30 to 9 PM.
-I take Vyvanse, a medication for my ADHD, at approximately 1:30pm. My afternoons require more sustained focus than my mornings. I have a fast metabolism, so the effects of the drug do not last 12 hours -- only around 6 or 7. Keep in mind that Vyvanse is a stimulant, so I require more food when taken, but my appetite is reduced.

Thanks,
swinz

I agree with whoever suggested you simply eat clean and eat big. Don't take offense but because of your question I don't think you fully understand nutrition. I kind of hate the word diet because in our culture it's come to mean "trying to lose weight" and has somewhat of a negative connotation.

I don't think intermittent fasting, paleo or ketogenic styles of eating would hurt you at all, but none are a magic bullet. I'm pretty sure all fall into the "eat clean" category. Do what you think works for you, eat as much natural, unprocessed food as you can and adjust your caloric intake to meet your size goals.

If you're a teenager and you train 5 times/wk then fasting is a horrible idea. Eating clean goes without saying and is something everyone should do anyway but yes, eat lots. Your age and the fact that you train often means you require more than an accountant, for example. I'm 6'4 and I had to eat like madman at your age to keep up 180 lbs. No need to count calories but you should keep a good food intake.

I did not mean diet as "losing weight", I meant diet as a specific nutrition plan. The title is a bit misleading there; I should have proposed the idea of adhering to general dieting guidelines vs. specific plans.

Dieting is terrible at any age. "Diets" do not work. A sound nutritional plan is appropriate at any age.

- How tall are you?
- How much do you want to lose?
- Why do you want to lose weight?
- 158 is tiny. Go do some squats and thank me in a few years.
