MT and wieght training
I have a simple question regarding professional MT fighters, and the way thai people train in their gyms in general : is their specific muscle training only done with bodyweight exercises (the classic sit ups, push ups, pull ups...) or do they also train with weights ? If yes, what kind of exercises do they do ?

u dont want to use heavy weights. just light hand weights, to improve punching power. weight lifting strength has nothing to with punching power. squatting is another story. most MTs do weight train their legs, especially heavyweights.

Joined my Muay Thay gym as a "bodybuilder". I was the biggest, most muscular in the gym and yet the weakest (I mean strength applied to MT movements) and slowest. Like B. Lesnar, in order to become competitive and develop stamina I had to become LESS muscular. My coach only does BW exercises and he's so strong in the clinch! A judo black belt couldn't take him down (yes, we are moving slowly towards MMA!)
He also admits limited weight training, only basic fundamental exercise, explosive/fast lifts or circuit training (which is basically cardio with some strengthening effect). shrug for the clinch work for sure.
Hope this helps

never do heavy weights or weights @ low reps. it messes up the mechanics of your muscle...I mean Silva, GSP, Penn, and countless other fighters have ditched weights in their training for that purpose.

true, when i started Dutch Muay Thai some years ago, i also was very big/muscular( worked out a lot at that time), but it didnt did any good there. I had sick power, but obviously too slow...

not all weight training programs are made equally...you can get much stronger without getting bigger. power = force x velocity. force = strength. strength training is a great supplement to standup when done PROPERLY

Agreed, I didn't really get that post. Doing weight training and doing punching exercises whether sparring, pads, bag etc. are separate muscle memories that are unlikely to confuse the CNS.
Also Anderson said on the UFC all access show that he lifts weights three times a week for two hours at a time.
