Serious question. Not flaming. But what do you think the size of someone's hips have to do with athleticism?

This guys is a soviet olympic coach, he has a lot of experience picking kids from small villages to be future champions. He can tell by the circumference of your elbows weather you have what it takes or not.

Basically,
Smaller hips = less surface area for force transfer = more efficient force transfer from lower body to upper body (and vice versa) = more explosive.
If you look at all the world class athletes, most have a tiny waist to shoulder ratio. Your archetypal example is Usain Bolt. He's got long limbs (which is bad for acceleration), but makes up for it by being incredibly explosive. This is the reason he's never really first off the starting line, but his explosiveness allows him to reach his top speed fast enough to overtake shorter guys who have faster acceleration but lower top speed. This is the reason he's so good at 100m sprints.
It's probably also why bodybuilders sub-consciously strive for that V taper look - broad shoulders/small waist is an indicator of athleticism.
If you look at Galvao, he's a rather slow mover for his height, even when he was at Marcelo's weight.
Of course the hips is only one indicator, you've also got fast/slow twitch muscle ratio, natural cardio ability and all that jazz.

It's physics 101. But everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

well, bodybuilders look for the V taper look because it simple looks much more aesthetic than a square look, there are guys that have born with wide hips and not, i dont know about your science but those wider hip guys usually are much more stronger than the v type guy, I dont know why, but in my short experience in grappling, If I find one of those guys at my level, I know im for a tough round, on the other hand, normally those guys with small hips look to be more flexible but not as strong... besides, I dont know where you get that Andre has wide hips, mike pierce is the definition of a wide hip guy, andre has a almost perfect V shape...

I think athletisim has more to do with fast/slow twitch muscle ratio than anything else...

So ... you can tell someone's level of coordination/proprioception by the width of their hips?

For woman, the width of their hips determine how fertile they are.
