any tips for throwing completely straight punches?
I got the weight transfer on my straight right down (rotating the rear leg, etc), but my coach keeps telling me im not throwing it straight but slighty curved...
so any tips for throwing completely straight punches? the funny thing is, if i stand southpaw, my straight left is pretty much perfect and feels natural because of me practicing so much jabs on orthodox stance... so maybe I should shadowbox like a southpaw to correct this? I think its a bad habit I picked up doing muay thai

Concentrate on keeping your shoulder down. When your shoulder comes up, it indicates that your elbow is coming out of line (vertically) with your shoulder, which leads to looping punches. If your shoulder is relaxed and down, then your punches will be straighter.

What really helped me was putting more twist into my punches, meaning I turn my hand over a bit more. Maybe try that?
I also think you should shadowbox in your natural stance.

A good tip is practicing the punch standing next to a wall so that if your punch starts rounding instead of going straight your elbow will brush against the wall.

This may be left field for you, but try a vertical fist punch. Keep the elbow pointed down, and if their was paint on your ribs, your elbow should come in and almost scrape the paint off. It cant get any straighter than having the elbow come into the centerline. Once this gets easier, then turn the fist over at the last second, and voila, perfect straight punch.

A lot of times guys that don't punch straight enough are also not rotating enough. How's the rest of your mechanics?
The recommendation for changing your fist orientation is a good one. Experiment a bit with throwing diagonal and vertical fist as well as the traditional rotated-over fist.
