Hey SAAMAG what exactly is triangle footwork?! It's when I step with my rear foot first to load the low kick?
And yeah, that cross was and absolute armpunch :p
I don't know man, I've never bothered much with my guard, but you can enlighten me about the possible benefits of making such changes...
this was me doin one of my first sparring sessions, also my first thread here
and here's the man who influenced me the most when it comes to feinting and movement in general, my muaythai coach (yeah, I know it's not MUAYTHAI like it should be, but hey, I'm from Brazil)... by now I can spot some similarities on how we present ourselfs in our fights

Yep...say you were going to kick with the right leg...you step out with the right leg, then step in with the left leg and throw the right kick. It's to create a better angle on the leg.
The guard thing was just a curiosity. In Muay Thai, you may come across someone who kicks to the head a lot more and likes to clinch and elbow. That's where the traditional guard really shines. There's tricks like driving your elbow into their punches and feet, it's easier to enter and protect from clinches and elbows...that sort of thing. Now if there's more punching going on, then a more relaxed guard is just fine and better in come cases. But like I said, more curiosity on my part.
Your kicks btw...looked better than either of the guys in the video above.

heh, my opponent was a taekwondo guy turned muaythai guy, in fact I was expecting for him to kick to my head a lot more, as he is known for his spinning and jumping heel kicks
the plan was to evade and counter kick... my teacher always told me that the better defense was to not be in the way of strikes haha but I can really see the point you made about a higher guard and gonna definitely work on it

Yep..that's the idea. I call it a triangle step because you're moving out at 45 and back in at 45, creates a triangle from where you were originally to the target.
