Amateur Boxer trying to get up one (or more) weight classes
Hey guys,
Completely new here and the only thread I've read is the FAQ so sorry in advance if I say something that is stupid or wrong
That being said, I thought I would start off by introducing myself and my goals a bit:
Age: 18
Weight: 118 lb/53.5kg- my last fight was in the junior's c-class bantamweight category
Height: 165cm/5'5
Amateur Boxing Record 2-1-2 (the "draws" are exhibition bouts)
Bodyfat: 14% (this is done using a friend's body fat calipers)
Training Schedule
- 3 x 2 hours a week of boxing
- 1 session of 5 x 5 (5 x 5 deadlifts, squats, rows etc)
Goals:
1. To compete in the Lightweight (-60kg/132 pound category) by Feburary (where my next fight is getting scheduled
2. To have more muscle definition- right now I can only see the outline of my abs as well as the linea alba (line down the middle). I am hoping for at least a four pack by Feb?
I will be stating what I have eaten yesterday in the next post. Thanks for your help guys
P.S. Inb4 midget comments

Where do you live? I am canadian. Here, I boxed over a decade ago in my teens. Weight classes were even or relatively within 5-10lbs max. Why increase weight? You'll gain it with time. More weight will slow you down. My sparing partner was provincial champ in his teens, then Canadian amateurs champ, went up weight classes gradually. He now fights in the pros as a hot prospect. Give it time man. Stay in your natural weight class. My sparing partner was the kind of boxer people left classes to avoid him. It hurt sparing.

Why do you wanna gain weight? Unless you're Mike Tyson, reach is king. Why would you wanna hurt you career for better abs?

You really need to be eating a lot more protein. Eat some at every meal and in between as well.
Aim to get a gram of protein per pound of body weight every day. You definitely need protein after your workouts, both the boxing and lifting. A protein shake or some meat within a half hour or so is mandatory.
Tbh your diet really sucks. More veggies, fruit, meat and complex carbs are in order of you want to gain weight. That and add another day of lifting to your schedule. You're young and your body can handle the stress, take advantage while you can and make sure to get plenty of rest too.

Also, have you counted your calories, carbs and protein?
I'm no diet expert but it looks like you aren't eating anywhere near enough. I'm having a hard time seeing 1500 calories there, and that's considered the minimum for a crash diet.

how are exhibitions a part of your ammy record?
Not sure why youd want to gain weight when you could probably gain strength without it at least initially doing one of those starting strength programmes
if you can't see your abs it's because you've too much fat covering them, everyone has abs they're just hidden in your case
also idk much about diet but figured Id also chime in and say theres hardly any fruit/veg there, and you could easily fit in another lifting session if you wanted to. Hope you're running at least every other day as well

I live in the land of kangaroos Here, there is also leniency on weight of around 2kg (so 4.4 pounds) and everything above automatically becomes an EXO/exhibition bout otherwise its unfair. That being said, I would still like to gain weight though as my division is paper thin in the senior/adult category (matches here are commonly in the -64kg to -75kg for men).

Dunno. That is what my coach tells me while personally I've noticied that both fighters' hands are lifted in an exhibition bout (versus an official one where usually one is declared as winner). Also, at least down under, the trophy/medal which gets handed out is the same for both participants.
You still got a point though as I used to compete in the novice division (0-3 fights) even when I had 4 entries in my little blue book.

Yeah, but its kinda plateaued. I started off with 52kg (including the bar) and am now up to 75kg. Its getting harder to make progress and I know I would be able to lift more if I had more muscle.

Yeah- college life is running me short on the veggie/fruit department. Corn is like cheapest but stuff like oranges are mad expensive (it was like $12.99/kg of cheries no shit). That being said, do you have any recommendations? How did you survive when you got kicked out of home?
Anyways, thanks for your reply mate. I have seen you around G and E alot and I am always thankful of meeting someone who loves their gloves!

Its unfair fighting Americans cause in Canada, we use hand wraps, and in America, they do it like the pros. Many times, people are caught in amateurs loading gloves, and stuff. Its complete crap. If you fight in America, you pretty much need to end the fight or expect a loss. The same goes for international competition.
Fortunately, I am not keen on leaving it up to judges. Now, I just train martial arts. I am too old for that shit but, I wish you luck. I am doing my own diet log so, if your interested or care to follow it, be my guest.
