There's nothing messed up about any technique in a fight. If you want to kick someone in the face smoker or not....then kick them in the face. That's the name of the game. But yes...don't do it to a Thai ESPECIALLY if he's better than you and/or knows that you know it's disrespectful.
Not just Thai's, Koreans too. Touching their face with the bottom of your feet with any kick is thought to be disrespectful. Personally...I think if anyone kicks me in the face in any way...it's disrespectful. But hey that's just me.

Is it also disrespectful to walk over a Thai in a fight, if you've thrown or knocked him down? I read in another thread that stepping over sitting Thais is bad etiquette, so I wonder if the same applies in the ring. I do know lots of Thais will stand right over their opponent after a clean throw, to emphasize the dominance of the technique.

well, pretty much the only Thais i ever see in my gym or at MT events are ex-stadium fighters so im sure theyre all better than me (old or not).
im thinking it has more to do with the retaliation from that kind of strike. im not sure everyone can throw a high teep like that but im sure there are a lot more people out there that could who dont throw it as well.
for some reason, a punch in the face just seems less malicious.
so you guys just throw teeps to the face in sparring with no headgear? id hate to be "that guy" that breaks someone's nose, having been on the other side of it.

Of course not...but I'm talking fights...smokers, amateur, pro. Not sparring during class.

thats what im saying though...how do you implement it effectively in a real fight when you havent sparred with it? aim for the upper chest in sparring and just know you could hit the face in a real fight?

You should be working it in pad sessions too...which should emulate fights on your end, no?

That's how you train the skill to kick people in the nuts. You just hit the inner thigh and visualize what you really would have done - try to mean it.

true but nothing is as effective as sparring at finding out what works and what doesnt.

ive always said that there is no one more qualified to throw a nutshot than a MT striker.

I don't think I'd take any sum of money in exchange for letting a MT expert kick me in the nuts on purpose.
I know a guy who teaches Muay Thai. A couple of years ago he got interested in Krav Maga. He said they gave him a new rank like every month. All he ever did in free response was block the punch / parry the knife / deflect the kick / dodge the hit / whatever and MT kick the nuts. They loved it apparently.
