Hmmm Gee I wonder what's more impressive.
Bj was definitely more accomplished at 170 going into the diaz fight.
Alves top 10? for what? getting knocked the fuck out by fitch and koing hughes? Bj did way better against those guys and still isn't top 10 apparently lol so if thats the case alves wasnt even top 20 .

lmfao "iced Hughes". Like at that point of Matt's career that was a big accomplishment or something.
BJ fans still thought he was the second coming of Jesus before the second GSP fight.

Good stuff, although I should assume anyone with a Tanner AV/sig will know what he's talking about.

Penn was a good win for Nick! But what has Nick ever shown that says he would be competitive with GSP?

I do want to believe I know SOME things about MMA .
But I do tend to stay away from this kind of discussions.
It pretty fast becomes about "belittling" fighter X former opponents.
We already see how the BJ that GSP beat was so much better than the BJ that Diaz beat.
We see it in the JbJ threads a lot suddenly a lot of great fighters is has been's and washed up. Anything to support "my favorite" fighters of the week.
Personally I was impressed by GSP. He has been out for 17 months.
Comes back and wins, also gets knocked down but survives and keep on playing his game. It was a great fight.
If Diaz want to think otherwise he is free to do so. Is it worth 40 pages on SD ?
Not really.

Hughes was on a 3 fight win streak at the time and had only lost to GSP and Alves since the last time he lost to Penn in 2004.

In fact, he has yet to face such an opponent. He did (technically, at least) lose to Sherk, but (1) Sherk possesses neither great top control nor elite MMA wrestling skills, and (2) even most Diaz haters would agree that Nick should've been awarded that decision (he stuffed something like 18 of Sherk's 20 takedown attempts, actually took Sherk down several times, and easily outstruck him.)
I disagree with only two specific points you made:
"No one is subbing GSP." I'd simply state that nobody has submitted GSP since his "stage fright" title match (GSP vs. Hughes I), nor is it likely that anybody will submit him in the near future.
"Nick does not have one shot KO power." While I agree that Nick isn't exactly a "one shot, one kill" mixed martial artist, I think his punching power is underrated. After all, not many fighters have face-planted Robbie Lawler with a single punch. IMO, Nick's conscious decision to employ a high volume striking strategy mitigates his one-strike KO ability.
That said, do I think Diaz would beat GSP if they should ever fight? I'd say it's possible, but rather unlikely. I'm a Nick Diaz fan, but I'm not a complete ignoramus. I recognize that there are serious holes in his game. I don't like to watch Diaz fight because I think he's the best welterweight in the world (or even top two or top three.) I like to watch him fight because he's a damned exciting fighter.

He is real fun to watch thats for sure

gsp would make diaz look like an amateur - diaz has the worst transitions in mma and his tdd isn't anywhere close to where it needs to be and never will be - there's no way he subs st pierre off his back - he's also flat footed and slow - if they ever fight st pierre would run a clinic on him

Well, then we've found some common ground. Diaz is a flawed, but exciting fighter; and among welterweights, there is GSP... and then there are the rest of the guys who weigh in at 170.
