Sad and depressing to watch -- the whole thing.

Monson could barely walk and kept stumbling and tumbling to the ground as if he needed crutches. His takedown attempts were feeble and hugely telegraphed, yet Aleks was STILL taken down by them. And once on the mat, Aleks just laid there like a dead dog. No real attempt to scramble, a half-hearted attempt at a foot lock.

After the fight, Aleks is still gasping for air like he's about to die during the post-fight interview even though a few minutes had already passed.

Fedor is looking down, pissed and embarrassed... then goes into the ring to begrudgingly take photos next to Vadim and Monson.

The arena looks almost totally empty.

I can imagine Fedor thinking "I retired for THIS shit?"

Kharitonov was a "can with skill"? That's ridiculous.

Aleks had potential but more importantly he was exciting to watch, and still is (to a lesser extent)

People love to watch Krazy horse fight too. Is that solely because of his win over Maeda at Bushido too?

To imply that no one would like Aleks, or like watching him fight if he hadn't been in Pride is pretty ridiculous. He's Fedor's brother for one, and he's exciting, and he's showcased some great skill in the past.

I think what he was saying was that the name snowman has nothing to do with jiu-jistu, and not that Jeff Monson wasn't good at it.

You probably know this already, but the guy you were responding to probably doesn't, or he was making a bad joke. So he was called Snowman, because he kicked ass at an Abu-Dhabi tournament. He was this unknown whit guy who kept growing with strength as the tournament progresses. In other words as the rolled (in the tournament) he got bigger (as a threat, because his confidence was growing) He was like a this small compact white thing that got bigger as it rolled, and hence he was called the Snowman, perhaps Snowball would've been more appropriate but he was nicknamed by Brazilians and english was their second language.

TS is being awfully liberal with the term "big win".

It seems like just yesterday, the Emelianenko brothers were tearing up the PRIDE HW division.

Oh, the good 'ol days.

Except that Aleks never tore up anything.
Aleksander Emelianenko is the Stephen Baldwin of MMA

lol... noob.

Aleks was 6-2 in PRIDE with wins over Sergei Kharitonov and Assuerio Silva. His only losses being to Cro Cop and Josh Barnett.

If it wasn't for Fedor, Aleks might've even won the PRIDE title.

Yeah....no. Maybe a tournament title if he didn't have to fight Cro Cop, Nog, or Werdum. Don't get me wrong, I like watching the guy fight (and he did well against Barnett until he gassed) but he just didn't have the fight IQ or discipline to be a top contender imo. Even his fight with Sergei (bar none the best win of his career) was a very closely contested affair. I don't think much has changed with Aleks honestly. He still does well against low-mid level comp and messes up in big fights. Even at his best he wasn't winning that belt imo and he wasn't half the fighter Fedor was (although there is honestly no shame in that).
