I read them from now and then, and honestly I don't believe the pros are better at picking winners than random MMA enthusiasts at all. Most of them pick the betting favorite, some don't...just as it is on sherdog.

well you'd have to get a sample to determine a true answer

The worst was Shogun/Liddell.
http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles...l-vs-Rua-17022
18-2 in favor of Chuck.
On the topic of this Pros Pick, I just have to mention these.
Max Holloway: I think Condit lost to Diaz, but it is what it is.
Kyle Kingsbury: Condit runs away most of the fight, but when he engages, GSP gets the takedowns and wins.
By the way, in reality pros picks are typically worse than the educated fans' are because they carry biases into their picks that we don't have. The fact that I like one fighter more than another won't sway my opinion on who's going to win, but if I had personally trained with one of the guys or he was on my team then it's very unlikely I'd publicly say he's going to lose. Throw nationality into it and the picks become almost completely irrelevant.

Every pro except Roy Nelson picked Cain over JDS for their first fight.

Everything people are saying about biases in pro's picks is totally true.
Honestly I blame Sherdog, they need to due more due diligence when deciding who to ask, or whose responses to use.
To their credit, they did seem to ask less Brazilians when a Brazilian fights a non-Brazilian, at least in the last one I read (months ago), but still there are some rather ridiculous examples of guys whose opinions should've never been solicited in the first place.
Like, for example, that guy who always picks against Anderson Silva. Why even ask him? I could tell you what he's going to say.
Pro's pick is a good tool to help in making picks, especially where you're really unsure yourself, but A) chances are that if you're unsure, so is everyone else and B) you have to have an idea of whose opinions are trustworthy and that's not often easy.

The pros picks are basically training partners and friends picking their buddies, or Brazilians picking their fellow countrymen when fighting an American. The rest are clueless and go with the flow.
Instead of asking for random B-level fighters, Sherdog should reach out to ALL the major MMA champs available, plus notable trainers giving their insights and thorough breakdown. Too much crap like "[Random Fighter]: fighter A wins." or "fighter B by submission.
