I've done some study into brainwave states and the flow is basically an Alpha brainwave state in which your mind and body are relaxed and in the moment.Your mind ceases to chatter and think basically becoming quiet and you just flow. Not worrying about where your gonna land or what position your going to end up in and flowing through the transitions without thinking about them. I don't want to get into another debate, there's another thread for that, but Ryron talks about being fully present and aware in the moment but relaxed allowing the person to react at the right time when the moment presents itself.

What I'd like to know is what a sports psychologist thinks of the "survival" mindset of Gracie jiujitsu as promoted by Ryron and Rener. Basically, "you do what you can, not what you want".

It seems like a very passive mindset compared to the usual "force your game on your opponent" strategy?

If you have mginaction, you should check out his newest discussion on the proper mindset during rolling. He basically advocates pushing yourself at all times no matter what level your sparring partner is. He also encourages people to open up their game... and if they get caught, its ok because its just training.

I think its pretty interesting because i remember budo jake interviewing michael langhi, and he also said he always trains 100%. Even jake looked surprised. lol

Just recorded the interview, we went with a pod cast format and answered many of the questions from this thread. We covered a HUGE amount of content, I think everyone will really enjoy it.

I have to edit and set up the pod cast, I'm still fairly new to this so it might take me a bit, people on my email list will be the first to receive it though so if you want to be in front of the line go to www.learntograpple.com and opt in
