From the 1960's through the 90's "The Troubles" occured in Ireland. 3,000 people lost their lives and an estimates 50,000 injuries took place as a result of political and religious violence between Protestants and Catholics in Northen Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It was in this environemnt that a Catholic protest singer named Paddy McGuigan raised a son who would marry a Protestant girl and become a national hero trancending the sport of boxing.
From the town of Clones which was situated on the border between the two countries Barry would ascend the world Featherweight rankings and then challenge the longest reigning champion at the time, Eusebio Pedroza for the title.
In London in 1985 McGuigan entered the outdoor ring before 26,000 fans. A television audience in the U.S. watched as instead of the national anthem of either country being sung father Pat encouraged the crowd to join in a unifying rendition of beloved Danny Boy.
I will never forget the meaning of the time or the moment.....

too many really, sad the first few tyson defeats, after that it was just as sad but without the shock factor, heartbreaking really. Ali/Holmes, saw it live closed circuit and a kid should never have to watch a hero go through that. Any Camacho victory in the early eighties. RJJ's crushing defeats really, really hurt, actually I hurt for him, that's a long way to fall and he had no experience for it. Foreman winning was one of the most feel good experiences ever simply because no one really gave him a chance and no one expected the big punch even though everyone knew he still had it. I remember HBO's prefight stuff being along the lines of George living for a dream, actually reciting "Impossible Dream" in the pre-fight stuff. In the fight he took a beating but did his share of fighting and managed to land that huge right. I still remember jumping up and cheering for him and hoping that Moorer wouldn't get up. It's too bad fighters don't quit forever after those kinds of moments.

When Joe Frazier passed away, I cried, absolutely bawled my eyes out... Thinking about all the great fights he had? The war he and Ali had, I wasnt around when they actually fought but I have watched that fight over and over again.

Um...to put in perspective, I know the most emotional moment in boxing has yet to come but when it does...my life will be upside and i'll probably be in depression for a long, long time. No exaggeration. Ali means that much to me. Above family, above self, just everything.

Gatti-Mayweather was the only time I've yelled at the television to stop a fight. Floyd teeing off towards the end made me sick.
It was hard to watch Morales go out like he did in the third Pacman fight. I knew it was going to happen but it didn't make it any easier.
