So if Diaz beats Benson, will Melendez/Diaz even happen?
It has been a long time waiting for Melendez to make his UFC appearance. He has been smashing sub-par opponents and wants a shot at UFC gold. But if Diaz wins, will they even fight each other?

No. The guys fighting out of the CG camp are really tight, and Melendez is a fairly fat lightweight. If Diaz wins the belt at 155 you should expect to see Melendez drop to 145 for an immediate shot at Aldo.

Not a bad conclusion. Gonna suck for other 145ers (Koch) if that happens. People keep jumping the line somehow (Sonnen, Edgar, Mir).

I don't think it ever becomes an issue. Bendo is a big step up from Miller and Cerrone. He went 3-0 against those two opponents of course, the last two he won decisively. He's a better, more aggressive wrestler than Miller to be a worse match-up for Diaz, and his sub D is legendary. In the unlikely scenario where Diaz would pull the upset, Pettis will get first crack at him if he wins. His striking defense is way better than Diaz'. Striking defense is the #1 attribute of long-reigning champs. You can't expect to keep eating strikes and avoid decision or tko losses consistently at the highest level.

Don't forget that Bendo's cardio is arguably the best at 155. He won't get tired of ragdolling Diaz all over the Octagon. Like, at all.

As mentioned they train together. I don't think they're very likely to fight. They've all said (Diaz bros, Shields, etc.) they'd gladly move weight classes to avoid each other.
