What?
Chuck was the LHW Champion and arguably number 1 LHW in theworld.
And how do you expect anyone to look like against Lyoto? The only 2 people to really figure out Machida are Shogun and Jones, both who wrecked Rampage in both eras.
You have a fictionalized view of Rampage.
Rampage has blown hot and cold his whole career.
He was never this absolute destroyer at any point in his career.
He has always been a very good fighter, who is very dangerous, but there was no point in his career when he was killing the top of the mountain on a regular basis.
And all this is coming from a guy who considers Rampage one of his favorite fighters and, quite frankly, I can't stand Bones.

Taking Rampage's words as truths is always a mistake. That dude has some serious self-identity problems. Regardless, he has almost always looked better in the UFC than in Pride. All of this "Rampage isn't in his Prime" or "Pride Rampage" stuff is crap. He looked as good (if not better) than he's ever looked in the fights before his fight against Jones.
Regardless, no Rampage could have won that fight. He couldn't close the distance or land any solid shots, especially given Jones' nearly foot long reach advantage. It also didn't help that Rampage tried virtually no kicks, and Jones' kicks were clearly having an effect on Rampage (mostly just slowing him down).
Jones absolutely picked Rampage apart. Jones neutralized his offense, dominated in the position battle, destroyed any defensive strategies Rampage had, and finished Rampage in vicious fashion. It wasn't a title fight; it was a display of Jon Jones' superiority to Rampage in nearly every aspect of mixed martial arts.
Now the real "Prime" talk should be what would this match have looked like if Jon Jones was in his prime. Just imagining that freak of a mixed martial artist getting better is a very scary thing.
Really, Rampage was never that dominant of a fighter. He's got powerful punches and great boxing, some good ground defense, some takedown ability, and good boxing movement, but that's about it. Him in his "prime" is nothing compared to Jones. Heck, I don't think any LHW is anything compared to Jones, save for maybe Tito Ortiz in his prime. And, again, the scary this is Jones has yet to reach his prime.

Is there any consensus when he left it? Perhaps when he went off to do movies? Before that? More recently with the retirement talk?

2002-2004 was Rampage at his best standing and on the ground he was always dangerous
first half of 05 decline
last half of 2005-2007 New trainer new rampage Improved stand up decline in everything else.
2009-present Wolfslair rampage power in his hands noting else really. slight resurgence against machida
I think he can beat Glover but he'll never return to form again not so much from wear and tear as he just doesn't care.

Excuse me, but whose calling Rampage a God??? I'm saying he has the style to beat Jones, and if he was prime, he'd have KO'd Jones.
Look, he got away with pulling off those garbage moves, becasue at that point, Page was a walking mummy. That's it. Say what you want. I'm out.

Lol dude I'm not biased. I love rampage. But your not even giving an argument as to why you think Page could beat him. Seriously give me the scenario on how you think Page would Whoop his ass. Would it be in the Pride ring? Standing? In the clinch?

That's what I'm trying to tell them. Jones got away with using his garbage moves on an old, slow ass, plodding page.

Let me reiterate. I'm not a huge Rampage fan. yes, I'm a fan, but in no way shape or form am I saying this because I love Page, and can't accept that he lost to Jones. I'm just calling it how I see it. Jones didn't fight a prime Rampage. That was half the man he used to be. LMAO.

During Rampage's Pride days, he'd have a far better chance. The problem is, he was STILL inconsistent as shit back then. Guy plowed through Arona, Liddell and Randleman, but got MASSIVE gifts in the fights with Bustamante and Ninja. First fight away from Pride, against Lindland, he got gifted another decision, then a fight or two later he looks spectacular against Chuck in their second fight.
Page has ALWAYS been inconsistent, and that's just a fact.
On his best day, he has a solid chance against Jones, but that would never be a bet I'd make.
