It's actually Denny Prokopos. Not one to always correct unless they call someone else numbnuts but get it wrong themselves.

The 10th planet philosophy is all about clinching your opponent and keeping him tight to yourself so he can't punch you and then work from that safe place, wheather it's full or half guard. For straight No-Gi competition that strategy is very limiting of course.

If I tapped Royler Gracie, former three time mundial champion, while I was still a brown belt, I wouldn't care who I lost to ever again. I think it's harsh to mention that he got beaten pretty well by Leozinho when Leo is just a legend. I'd say Royler is too, but I'd be pretty pleased with beating one legend on the biggest grappling stage.

I agree with you. I think it was an incredible feat and I'm not trying to take away from what Eddie accomplished, but look at the guys that win the big jiu jitsu tournaments. They're Gracie Barra, Alliance, etc. Not 10th Planet guys.

They had only like 10 or less people competing. I'm not sure how many Alliance, GB, etc, had. 10th Planet has also had guys winning the ADCC trials recently, so I'm not sure it's fair to say they don't do well in grappling competitions.

With this mentality it's a shock that schools that only focus on gi aren't winning pan ams, mundials etc.
