If Pavlik wants a high profile win he should have fought Chavez Jr. Pavlik puts a whoopin on that ass, but gets shut out by Ward.

A fight with Arthur Abraham would've been cool. I mean, not as cool as it would've been 4 years ago, but why not

I am wondering this too. Pavlik had to have had another big money offer right? Even if he lost to another big name, Ward's style makes great fighters look awful. If he had another big fight that was exciting, I think that would be better for him even if he lost. Now he is just going to get shut out and look confused/bad.

Exactly right...
if I was a top contender around that weight class I would make every excuse to avoid fighting Ward...
eg:
1) The purse is too low
2) I can't make that weight.
3) He can't make that weight, and if he did he would be too slow...I want Ward at his best.
4) I'm looking at fighting Sergio Martinez
5) My mom is sick.

Pavlik already turned down $1.5 million (if I recall correctly) to face Bute at 168lbs and in doing so put himself somewhat between a rock and a hard place.
If I was Pavlik's team and there was any possibility that he could get to 160lbs I'd get him back there pronto. It's a far more open division in general compared to the talent rich 168lbs and more than that I don't think Pavlik is half the fighter he is at SMW as he is as MW. At 160lbs no-one can physically bully him and I think he loses a lot of his power as he moves up.
It should also be noted that a drunk and mentally + physically broken version of Pavlik was competitive with Martinez and was somewhat unfortunate in the cuts that opened and his corners inability to deal with them. A more healthy, less wasted Pavlik who hasn't suffered serious injuries in the recent past would be a real force at 160lbs... at 168lbs I think he's basically an also ran.

Especially Pavlik.
After that whole "i don't fight for peanuts" fiasco i guess his options are pretty limited.

This. Hate the fight, don't really want to see it. And YES, this is the name of the game, this is exactly what we beckon for most of the time, and the big fights SHOULD happen, but like one of my favorite posters here just stated, at SMW this isn't two of the best going at it, because Pavlik is NOT the threat he was at MW. I'd say it's only his name that he's successfully carried up in weight with him, which is sadly the only thing you need for a big pay day + thorough ass kicking in way too deep of waters. Name=money, money=fight potentially happens. Wondering if MW is totally out of the question...
