My coach always says, "There's a defense to every submission, but there's also a point of no return."
Gentlemen, the Lug Wrench is the only submission I've ever encountered that proves this rule wrong.

In your first class? Don't worry, you won't be....

Hahahaha that was awesome
A lot of truth in it though. Nice video
When the kid jumped on his back it reminded me just of what it's like when my kids attack me

I figure it's wise to offer to play guard (as if I even know how to do such a thing ) against those smaller than me, and try to work on top positions against guys around my size or larger. Does that sound about right?

Guard is good to play for sure. When on top, there's nothing wrong with using your weight properly - when people complain it's usually because a bigger guy is using his strength to muscle something that wouldn't normally work, or isn't going for enough attacks - stay mobile and aggressive on top going for submissions etc. It isn't good to muscle things that wouldn't normally work and actually is bad strategy anyway for rolling and learning because you gas yourself out trying to do that. (don't worry about this at first - just be aware of it as you learn more techniques over the next few months) But definitely use your weight and pressure to your advantage because you can be darn sure smaller guys will use their speed, mobility and flexibility to theirs - got to use your body type
Most important thing is just to start training and keep training though - get to class!!!

Thanks, that's just what I needed to hear. I'm getting psyched to start choking fools out! (after months of getting choked out, of course)

Heheh. Yeah, I realize I'm getting ahead of myself. I've never gone into a class with this feeling of absolute ignorance before, but that's part of the excitement. I meant more in the coming months, I don't want to ever become the noob that beats others via some perceived "unfair advantage."
But if squishing little dudes is fair game, then...

We expect to get squished. We're used to it.

I would agree not to squish little guys if they agreed to only move at my natural, glacial pace.

Haha! It's only fair, I agree. Same goes for Muay Thai. Slow down and let me hit you, you little bastards.

Crushing us with weight, and using your strength is cool, as long as it's the proper time and partner. If it's another new white belt, try not to give him more weight than he knows what to do with, but don't feel bad about having an advantage.
However, the one "strong noob" thing that drives me nuts is pinning both of their wrists above their head, and sitting there. You can't do anything from that position, and if you're sufficiently stronger and heavier, they can't, either. All it really does is stall the roll. I'd rather you choke me a dozen times than just lie on top of me until the timer beeps, and that goes for any position.
