Nick Diaz: Cardio Machine

This excerpt comes from the "Nick Diaz:MMA's Pro-weed Warrior" article:

Quote:
“My typical day starts off with a thirty to fifty mile bike ride, then a five to seven mile run. After that I take a break. Then I go do a boxing workout and practice jujitsu five, six or sometimes seven days a week.”
Now, here is the portion/distance breakdown for this year's "Ford Ironman World Championships" (from http://www.ironmanlive.com/):

Quote:
Ford Ironman World Championship 70.3
Clearwater, Florida

Date:
2007-11-10

Distance:
1.2 mi. swim • 56 mi. bike • 13.1 mi. run
Now, side by side for better comparison:

Activity-----------Diaz------------Ironman

Swim-------------N/A-------------1.2 Miles

Bike-------------30-50 mi.-------56 mi.

Run--------------5-7 mi.---------13.1 mi.

Diaz doesn't mention swimming in the breakdown of his daily routine, but it isn't difficult to imagine that a couple of hours worth of boxing and jiujitsu is at least equal to a 1.2 mile swim. In fact, I would go as far to say that 3-4 hours of boxing and jits training likely makes up for the swim and more. In fact, It probably isn't too far off base to suggest that a couple of hours of boxing and jits is likely nearly equal to 1.2 miles of swimming and 6 miles of biking ... and maybe even another couple of miles of running in terms of cardiovascular and muscular endurance training.

So, if the above assumptions/approximations hold, Nick Diaz's cardio training (especially in the case of heavy/max-out days) is like completing the Ironman World Championship course. And he does this between 5 and 7 days a week.

Impressive.

I believe that's a half ironman you're citing. Still a heckuva way to warm up every day...

while some of the comparisons are a bit far fetched that's still a crazy workout. I'd be really inclined to like Diaz if it wasn't for his attitude.

you know he was in the hospital with staph right after that fight... his cardio beats anyones. TS was citing a half ironman, but diaz has done ironman tris. He's amazing....in fact...I think he did a tri right after he got out of the hospital.....amazing. .

He had a staph infection.

Ever have one? It's tough to breathe, think, do much of anything. It's like a mutant STD.

You are correct! He did the Nissan Xterra Triathlon and came in second.

Off of a staph infection and fight.

Dude is a beast.
