John Carpenter's The Thing was partly influenced by Howard Hawks' The Thing from Another World, but it wasn't really a remake, it was just based on the same source material, the novella "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell Jr (under the pen name Don A. Stuart). And the Carpenter version was much closer to the novella than the Hawks version.

Dead alive
Cemetary man

B-slasher
Slumber party massacre 2
Sleepaway camp

Directors
Argento
Fulci
Raimi
Jackson
Deadato
Herschal gordan lewis

damnit i could go on and on and would change my mind every time
In fact im changing my mind as i type about almost everything i already typed...

i have a collection of around 5k horror films on vhs, i spent the length of my teenage years (when i lived at home) 14-today collecting every horror film i could find, from every country,
back then the only way "obscure" titles were attained were through trading online via bootleg.com early 90's (hell yeah if you remember that!) or purchasing from companies that basicly used whatever laws to obtain overseas films for free and profit off of them.
I was the kid that had 5 different memberships at any one time always searching for a new film to add to my collection.

I don't know about the premise of this thread . . . My 3 favorite horrors aren't classics and most classics suck in all actuality. Yeah, I've seen most.

BUT, the 3 best oldies:

1. The Exorcist
2. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original obviously)
3. Pet Cemetary

Hon mention:

Psycho
The Thing
The Omen
The Changeling
Salem's Lot
Suspiria

All-time Horror:

1. The Ring
2. Frailty
3. The Exorcist

Hon Mention:

Ravenous
The Uninvited
Pet Cemetary
Scream (original)
Insidious
Psycho

Not Bads Newbs:

Wrong Turn
Cabin Fever
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (first remake)

Cool man. Horror's my favorite genre too, have seen most (domestic and foreign). I can't boast that kind of a resume though lol.
