Vaughn left on his own I'm sure. He's been prone to doing that a lot.

Matthew Vaughn Out as Director of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Director Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class) has reportedly decided not to direct the sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past. At this time, there is no explanation for Vaughn’s departure, but this doesn’t mark the first change of heart in the director’s history. He previously toyed with the notion of dropping out of helming 2010′s Kick-Ass before changing his mind and returning. He then opted out of directing the sequel, which is currently being directed by Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down).

Fox wants to keep their July 18th, 2014 release date and will have to move on landing a new director soon, especially since the original cast, including Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, are all expected to return. Tops on their list is Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2).

Deadline reports that Vaughn will step away from his directorial responsibilities on X-Men: Days of Future Past, but that Singer may step in to replace him. Vaughn, who wrote the treatment for the sequel, will remain with the project as a producer. He’ll also be attached to another Fox production, Secret Service, which was pitched by Mark Millar as a combination of My Fair Lady and James Bond.

Bryan Singer Confirmed to Direct X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

It was recently reported that Matthew Vaughn, director of X-Men: First Class, was stepping down from heading up the sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past. On the shortlist of replacement directors was one Bryan Singer, who was already acting in a producing capacity for the sequel. Singer has now been confirmed as the director for X-Men: Days of Future Past. There is still no explanation as to why Vaughn stepped aside, but he is in the process of inking a deal to stay on with the project as a producer. (He did turn in the film’s screen treatment after all.)

Deadline reports that Fox made quick work of replacing their vacant director’s chair and will likely be able to keep their July 18th, 2014 release date as a result. Fans should be familiar with Singer’s work as he wrote and directed both 2000′s X-Men and 2003′s follow-up, X2. He also turned in the script for Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class along with an ensemble of other writers, including Vaughn.

The film follows the 1980s’ comic storyline written by Chris Claremont that alternates between a present day battle against the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline where an assassination of a government official has led to Sentinels roaming the land and mutants held prisoner in internment camps. The cast from the original film is expected to return, including Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy.

They have done a terrible job with this franchise.
There hasn't been a decent movie since X2* and there has been zero character development or story progression.

I'm completely bored with this entire franchise and for the first time can see myself staying home for these (wolverine, x4).

Do we really need to include Mystique AGAIN?

I guess I'm glad Singer is back but I feel like they already fucked this thing up with First Class. This franchise needed a proper reboot and instead they just made a bigger mess of it.
