The Wire Season by Season Rankings

I'm on a serious Wire binge for the holidays and I am done with the entire run and I am ready to rank them. This is the 2nd time I have watched The Wire all the way through.

Season 1
Season 2
Season 4
Season 3
Season 5

Originally, I had season 2 and 4 flipped but on a second viewing season 2 really came on strong. Season 4 keeps it strong with the kids being strong enough to carry it but season 3 falls off the wagon despite having plenty of the original Season 1 storylines still ongoing. Season 5 is dog shit.

i wouldn't say season 5 was dogshit, but would say for me it is CLEARLY worse than the rest.

I am also inclined to say season 2 was better than many give it credit for.

Season 5 was awful and the entire serial killer angle was basically the show waving a giant sign that said "WE JUMPED THE SHARK".

but they're all fairly even, it's just some are slightly better than others.

4 - Definitely created the most emotional connection with the characters i think.
1 - Opened the world of the Wire up
3 - A fitting conclusion to the Barksdale clan in a much needed return to the street
2 - Really interesting look into a less glamorized side of modern crime
5 - ...wtf?
