It seems so bizarre a thing. A forum is the perfect example of only hearing one side of the story.
Is a guy a good guy in real life? I don't know, I didn't meet him at the bar like Aas.
I can only speak to what I experienced online, and while that is so limited a medium, it is telling.
Kansas had an effect on me.
He came across as a thoughtful, smart, likeable guy who had a lot to share. I feel very qualified speaking to this, despite only getting his side of the story. I am in no way a Christian and I have been a very skeptical and even insulting speaker toward Christianity.
But that kind of talk was never aimed at Kansas. He was a humble and tolerant guy, if you were looking to have a pleasant conversation, without insult, on faith and the universe and the differing opinions, he was your guy. Understanding, insightful, tolerant and knowledgeable. If I ever found myself trolling hardcore religious people for a bit of fun, I was instantly a little embarrassed when Kansas entered the conversation. In fact I think that was start of the impetus for our interaction. enginekid could troll with religion like no other, and his extremist and crazy statements didn't just give Christians a bad name, they gave mankind a bad name. Kansas was always quick to jump in and offer the reasonable and thought out point of view that still represented the more sane side of Christianity.
His faith and his rationality did not prevent him from the occasional dirty joke. As often as he made me think "Well said.", he made me think "Ewwww." And often "lol". He was a guy who could move seamlessly between sub forums. He had a good sense of humor, he was well versed in Sherdog politics and he typically chimed in with good contributions.
I'll miss him. I only saw one side of the story, but the side that I saw, I liked quite a bit.

I found out 2 days ago, but I still haven't figured out how to adequately express how devastated I am by the news.
I never met him, but Chris was my friend. I'll miss him. He was the kindest, most decent person I've known on these forums. He never had a bad word for anyone, treating everyone with the same grace and good manners, regardless of their background or beliefs. He was the ideal Christian; he used his faith to be a better person. He was a genuinely good person, which is SO rare in this world. I don't know why he had to die, but I wish that he hadn't.
I'd like to encourage everyone to contribute to his memorial fund, anything you can spare, even if it's just a few dollars. Raising 5 kids is hard enough, but now Nicole has to raise them on her own, and I'm going to do everything I can to help. Chris was one of ours. His family deserves our help.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Chris Keck Family Memorial Fund at Metcalf Bank

Looks like the donations are for charities (nothing wrong with that, of course). Anyone know of a way we can help out the family?

His real name is Chris and he was from the KC area. Shortly after I started posting here, Forrest/Griffin put the sport on the map and UFC ppvs started being available in more bars. I had a wide invite to watch it to my friends and to anyone on sherdog in the KC area and he came.
Chris joined me regularly in the years since. Once a month, almost every month he'd join me at the bar. Sometimes there would be many in the group and sometimes just he and I. In recent years it was just us, usually.
He invited me into his home to watch Strikeforce events and I met his wife, his children.
We'd talk fights mostly when in person and we had many wonderful conversations on Sherdog about everything else.
Maybe a year ago he had a very solemn moment when he confided in me how much it meant to me that I was always so welcoming. I didn't know what to make of that at the time. But I was touched.
In recent months I was very poor and took a weekend job and was missing the UFCs. I recently got a job and we planned to watch the coming event together, restarting the tradition. He warmly congratulated me on new job. I lamented how long I was having to wait for the next event.
I just learned today that Chris passed.
I already miss my friend and feel awful for his children and wife for losing him far too early.
tldr: we all lost a great poster and I lost a very kind friend.

RIP KANSAS. Thanks for honoring him A.G.A. Maybe some of us fellow Kansas Citians can watch one of the next events somewhere in his honor as you were about to start up with him again.........
