Struck by Lightning will probably be a must see, looks good. Wonder if they will bring him in as a writer on Glee, they want him around for another year and that would be a decent way to do it.

Icon4 Top Trailers of the Week (Feb 13-19)

1. First Trailers for ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
The domestic and international trailers for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has gone online. The film re-imagines the 16th President of the United States as a statesman by day and a vampire slayer by night. Directed by Timur Beckmambatov and produced by Tim Burton, the film stars Benjamin Walker, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson, and Rufus Sewell. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens in 3D on June 22nd.

Synopsis: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of our greatest President, and the untold story that shaped our nation. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the blood-thirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history’s greatest hunter of the undead.

2. First Four Clips from Andrew Stanton's JOHN CARTER

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Walt Disney Pictures has released four movie clips from John Carter, a science fiction epic based on the classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The film tells the story of a former Confederate captain John Carter who is mysteriously transported to Mars (Barsoom) where he becomes part of a conflict between the various nations of the planet, whose leaders include Tars Tarkas and Princess Dejah Thoris. Carter takes it upon himself to save Barsoom and its people.

Directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E), the film stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, James Purefoy, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church and Ciarán Hinds. John Carter hits theaters in 3D and IMAX on March 9th.

3. Watch 13 Minutes Behind-the-Scenes Footage from JOHN CARTER

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Disney’s John Carter is a movie that’s been in development for over two decades. Numerous filmmakers have attempted to tackle Edgar Rice Burroughs’s source material (published 100 years ago), and Andrew Stanton (Wall-E, Finding Nemo) is the director who finally brought the story to life. In order to transport Taylor Kitsch’s title character to a creature-infested Mars, a great deal of visual effects work was needed.

Nearly 13 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage from the making of John Carter have been released that give us a glimpse into how Stanton pulled it all off. We see models built during the conception stage, Willem Dafoe walking around on stilts in order to portray a towering Thark, how Stanton got Kitsch to make those giant leaps, and even composer Michael Giacchino (Lost, Star Trek) hard at work on the film’s score.

The sci-fi pic also stars Thomas Haden Church, Mark Strong, Lynn Collins, and Samantha Morton. John Carter opens in 3D on March 9th. Click HERE to see the full trailers.

4. English-Language Remake Trailer of Nicolas Winding Refn’s PUSHER

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
A few days ago, it was reported that Luis Prieto‘s English-language remake of Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Pusher had been picked up by The Weinstein Company’s VOD label, Radius-TWC. Now, the first trailer has now gone online. The film centers on Frank, a drug dealer (Richard Coyle) who gets busted by the cops and has to throw away his product. When he returns to the mob boss (Zlatko Buric reprising his role from Refn’s trilogy) without the unsold drugs or the money to pay for them, Frank frantically tries to find a way to repay the mobster.

Perhaps Refn’s executive-producer blessing make the remake more palatable and it looks like Prieto has certainly delivered on the intensity of the drama. The film also stars Agyness Deyn, Bronson Webb, and Paul Kaye. Pusher is due out in the US later this year.

Synopsis: As edgy and explosive as Nicolas Winding Refn’s 1996 cult classic, this English language remake sees a small time London drug dealer descend into debt following a spot of bad luck and a series of bad choices. The more desperate his behavior gets, the more isolated he becomes until there is nothing left standing between him and the nine millimeter bullet his debtors intend to put through his skull…

5. International Teaser Trailer for Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
An international teaser trailer for Ridley Scott's sci-fi pic Prometheus has been released. There's very little new footage that we haven't seen from the US trailer but it's still awesome to watch. The movie title that slowly spells out "Prometheus" doesn't appear in this new trailer. In a sea full of bright and colorful big-budget fare, Prometheus promises to be a breath of fresh air. The film stars Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, and Idris Elba. Prometheus opens in 3D on June 8th.

Synopsis: Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.

6. International Trailer and First Clip from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Sony has released a new international trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man. It's basically the same as the domestic trailer except for a few tinsy weensy seconds of new footage. And as part of their "Mark of the Spider-Man" viral marketing campaign to promote their upcoming summer superhero flick, Marvel and Sony Pictures have released the very first official clip and it features a humorous scene between Peter Parker and that intimidating doorman he mentioned in the trailer. In a way, it's very similar to a scene in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 where Peter was blocked by the usher (Bruce Campbell).

Directed by Marc Webb, the film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Chris Zylka, C. Thomas Howell, Embeth Davitz, and Irfan Khan. The Amazing Spider-Man opens in 3D on July 3rd, 2012.

7. New Trailer for MARLEY Documentary by Director Kevin Macdonald

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Bob Marley’s universal appeal, impact on music history and role as a social and political prophet is both unique and unparalleled. MARLEY is the definitive life story of the musician, revolutionary, and legend, from his early days to his rise to international superstardom. Made with the support of the Marley family, the film features rare footage, incredible performances and revelatory interviews with the people that knew him best.

From Academy Award-winning director Kevin Macdonald (One Day In September, The Last King of Scotland) comes the story of a towering figure of musical history, whose music and message has transcended different cultures, languages and creeds to resonate around the world today as powerfully as when he was alive.

MARLEY will make its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival this month followed by its North American premiere at SXSW. Magnolia Pictures will release theatrically and on VOD on Friday, April 20th.

8. New Trailer for Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s INTRUDERS

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Though no one can see him, Hollow Face lurks in the corners, desperately desiring love but only knowing how to spread fear and hate. He creeps into the life of John Farrow (Clive Owen) after Farrow’s beloved 13-year-old daughter Mia (Ella Purnell) is assaulted in their home. The line between the real and the imaginary blurs as fissures start to open within the family unit. It seems that no security measure can keep Hollow Face out.

From visionary filmmaker JUAN CARLOS FRESNADILLO (28 Weeks Later, the upcoming Highlander reboot), INTRUDERS is the chilling story of two children living in different countries, each visited nightly by a faceless being who wants to take possession of them. Millenium Entertainment will release Intruders on March 30th.

9. Green-Band Trailer for Dance Video Game Battle Comedy THE FP

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
A few days ago, the red-band trailer for The FP went online, but I couldn't post it here since it contains nudity. Today Drafthouse Films has released the green-band version. Both trailers do a good job of setting up the movie’s premise: With an 80s-style vibe, the plot pits two gangs against each other, and their differences are settled by playing “Beat Beat Revolution” (based off the real-world rhythm-dance game Dance Dance Revolution).

The red-band version is heavy on the swearing, but it also does a better job of showing off the fun dialogue and intentionally corny lines like “He wasn’t expecting the unexpected!” The film stars Jason Trost, Lee Valmassy, Art Hsu, Caitlyn Folley, Nick Principe, Brandon Barrera, James DeBello, Sean Whalen, and James Remar. The FP opens March 16th.

10. Second Trailer for SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
A new trailer for Salmon Fishing the Yemen has gone online. The film centers on a fishing expert (Ewan McGregor) and PR consultant (Emily Blunt) who are thrown together to bring salmon fishing to the Yemen at the behest of a sheik (Amr Waked) and the Prime Minister’s press secretary (Kristin Scott Thomas). Salmon Fishing in the Yemen opens March 9th.

Synopsis: A visionary sheik has a big dream — to bring salmon fishing to the desert. Willing to spare no expense, he instructs his representative to turn his dream into reality, an extraordinary feat that will require the involvement of Britain’s leading fisheries expert who happens to think the project both absurd and unachievable. That is, until the Prime Minister’s overzealous press secretary latches on for its potential as a ‘good will’ story. Now, this unlikely team will put it all on the line and embark on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible, possible.

11. Behind-the-Scenes Featurette for BATTLESHIP

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Universal Pictures has revealed this new behind-the-scenes featurette for Battleship which gives you a look at how the real heroes of the armed forces show the cast and crew how it's done. Real-life sailors and members of the U.S. Navy were indeed brought onboard to ensure that all the Navy protocol, jargon, and fighting tactics on display in Battleship are indeed accurate. Everyone from the Battleship cast to production team were advised on matters ranging from how to conduct themselves – to what weaponry and equipment should be used in different situations – from legitimate members of the armed forces, who also served as extras in the film.

Directed by Peter Berg (The Kingdom), the film stars Taylor Kitsch (cinturao's man crush), Brooklyn Decker, Alexander Skarsgard, Rihanna, Asano Tadanobu, and Liam Neeson. Battleship opens May 18th. Click HERE to see the trailers.

12. First Trailer for STRUCK BY LIGHTNING Written By Chris Colfer

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
The first trailer of high school comedy Struck by Lightning has been released. The film is not only Glee's Chris Colfer’s feature debut, but also his first produced script. Judging by the trailer, there is definite promise. Colfer’s writing is clearly influenced by his day job, given the story’s focus on what it means to be an outcast in high school. But Colfer smartly crafted a different kind of high school outcast for himself, one who wants to be the editor of The New Yorker rather than a Broadway star. This ambition leads the character to blackmail the entire school to better his chances of getting into the school of my dreams.

Directed by Brian Dannelly (Pushing Daisies), the film also stars Rebel Wilson, Sarah Hyland, Allison Janney, Dermot Mulroney, Christina Hendricks, Allie Grant, and Angela Kinsey. No released date scheduled yet.

13. New Featurette for THE PIRATES! BAND OF MISFITS

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
A new featurette for the upcoming animated comedy The Pirates! Band of Misfits has gone online. The film comes from Aardman Animations, the studio behind Chicken Run and Arthur Christmas, and if you think all their wacky jokes and oddball humor are amusing, just wait until you see what goes into putting that goofiness onscreen. The stop-motion animation process for The Pirates! took 18 months to shoot. That’s a year and a half spent filming one movie. This featurette takes you behind-the-scenes of the incredible work the people at Aardman do and reveals just how difficult it is to put together a stop-motion film of this magnitude.

The film features the voices of Hugh Grant, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Jeremy Piven, and Imelda Staunton. The Pirates! Band of Misfits opens in 3D on April 27th. Click HERE to see the full trailers.

Synopsis: In The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Hugh Grant stars in his first animated role as the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It’s a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a haplessly smitten young scientist (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!

14. First Trailer for Whit Stillman’s DAMSELS IN DISTRESS

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
The first trailer for Whit Stillman's Damsels in Distress is now online. Stillman (Metropolitan) is one of the masters in portraying the young and erudite. It’s not that the banter isn’t stiff, rather that is part of the point. And it helps when you have stars like Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody, and Analeigh Tipton voicing the characters as Stillman does in his latest film. Gerwig, Tipton, Megalyn Echikunwoke, and Carrie MacLemore star as a group of coeds whose friendship is threatened by a series of romances. Damsels in Distress opens in limited release on April 6.

Synopsis: Damsels in Distress is a comedy about a trio of beautiful girls as they set out to revolutionize life at a grungy American university – the dynamic leader Violet Wister (Greta Gerwig), principled Rose (Megalyn Echikunwoke) and sexy Heather (Carrie MacLemore). They welcome transfer student Lily (Analeigh Tipton) into their group, which seeks to help severely depressed students with a program of good hygiene and musical dance numbers. The girls become romantically entangled with a series of men – including smooth Charlie (Adam Brody), dreamboat Xavier (Hugo Becker), the mad frat-pack of Frank (Ryan Metcalf) and Thor (Billy Magnussen) – who threaten the girls’ friendship and sanity.

15. Four Clips from New DC Animated Film, JUSTICE LEAGUE: DOOM

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Warner Home Video has released four new clips at their upcoming original animated film, Justice League: Doom. The story finds Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Cyborg and Batman on their heels when a team of super villains discover and implement the Dark Knight’s contingency plans for stopping any rogue Justice League member. The story is inspired by Mark Waid’s much-heralded JLA: Tower of Babel mixed with the Legion of Doom from 80's animated cartoon Super Friends.

Featuring an all-star JLA voice cast with Tim Daly (Superman), Kevin Conroy (Batman), Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern), Michael Rosenbaum (Flash), Susan Eisenberg (Wonder Woman), Carl Lumbly (Martian Manhunter), Bumper Robinson (Cyborg), Phil Morris (Vandal Savage), Olivia d’Abo (Star Sapphire), and Claudia Black (Cheetah).

Justice League: Doom will be released on Blu-Ray, DVD and for Download on February 28, 2012. Click HERE to see the full trailer.

16. Red Band Trailer for David Wain’s WANDERLUST

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Opening next Friday is David Wain’s (Role Models) new comedy Wanderlust, and Universal has released a last-minute red band trailer for the pic. If you’re worried about this trailer spoiling all the good jokes, rest assured that there are only a couple new bits sprinkled in with the material we’ve seen previously. The film also stars Jennifer Aniston, Justin Theroux, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Malin Akerman, Kathryn Hahn, and Alan Alda. Wanderlust opens in 2D on February 24th.

[Unfortunately I can't post the trailer here since it contains nudity. The red band trailer is available in YouTube.]

Synopsis: George and Linda are an overextended, stressed out Manhattan couple. After George is downsized out of his job, they find themselves with only one option: to move in with George’s awful brother in Atlanta. On the way there, George and Linda stumble upon Elysium, an idyllic community populated by colorful characters who embrace a different way of looking at things. Money? It can’t buy happiness. Careers? Who needs them? Clothes? Only if you want them. Is Elysium the fresh start George and Linda need? Or will the change of perspective cause more problems than it solves?

17. First 2 Minutes of Sundance Favorite SOUND OF MY VOICE

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
One of the breakout stars from the 2011 Sundance Film Festival was writer/director/actress Brit Marling. Two of her breakout films from the fest were Sound of My Voice and Another Earth, the latter of which was released in theaters last year. Now it’s time for the release of Sound of My Voice and the first two minutes of the film have gone online as a preview. The story follows a couple and documentary filmmaking team who infiltrate a mysterious group with the intention of exposing their leader as a fraud. The two-minute tease is essentially the first trailer for the film. Sound of My Voice opens April 27th.

Synopsis: In SOUND OF MY VOICE, Peter (Christopher Denham) and Lorna (Nicole Vicius), a couple and documentary filmmaking team, infiltrate a mysterious group led by an enigmatic young woman named Maggie (Brit Marling). Intent on exposing her as a charlatan and freeing the followers from her grip, Peter and Lorna start to question their objective and each other as they unravel the secrets of Maggie’s underworld.

18. THE PRESTIGE-Style Trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
This fan-made cut is actually really cool. It takes Michael Caine’s “three parts to a magic trick” speech from Nolan’s 2006 magician film and applies it to the three films in Nolan’s Batman trilogy. It fits surprisingly well, and it’s definitely worth checking out if you’ve got two minutes to spare.

1. Gina Carano to Star in Action Thriller IN THE BLOOD

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
After making her breakthrough with the action vehicle Haywire, the MMA fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano is coming on board to star in In the Blood, an action thriller being directed by John Stockwell (Into the Blue, Blue Crush), according to THR.

Described as being in the vein of Taken, Blood is set in motion when a husband disappears while vacationing in the Caribbean with his wife, to be played by Carano. The grieving wife passionately and recklessly pursues the men whom she believes kidnapped and killed him. Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnston wrote the script.

“This role will showcase not only Gina’s fighting skills, but also her acting abilities as her character struggles to reign in her violent past,” Stockwell tells THR. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in late spring or early summer in Puerto Rico. 8711, the stunt team that worked on Haywire, is in discussions to reteam with Carano for Blood.

2. Jonathan Liebesman to Direct TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Paramount is in development on a live-action reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It has been a rough transition so far from comic to feature, but the studio is taking the project in an unexpected direction. Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form of Platinum Dunes—the production company behind horror remakes such A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th—are shepherding the reboot. The studio assigned the script to Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, the writers who most recently penned the whip-smart Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Now Variety reports Jonathan Liebesman is in negotiations to direct. Liebesman directed Battle: Los Angeles, and his next project is Wrath of the Titans. He’s the up-and-comer you call when you want a big action film. Tone will always be tricky when your main characters are anthropomorphic turtles who know martial arts.

In a recent Sherdog versus poll, TMNT beat out The Lion King with 56% of the total votes. Childhood memories is such a powerful illusion because I doubt the results would be the same if majority of the posters watched the 1990 movie all over again.

3. Warner Bros. Planning a New I AM LEGEND Movie with Will Smith

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Deadline has learned that Warner Bros has closed a deal with Akiva Goldsman and Overbrook Entertainment to produce another installment of I Am Legend, the 2007 hit film. The intention is for Will Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, who was the last man on Earth doing battle with a mutated mob in New York City after an apocalyptic man-made virus wiped out the population. A deal was made with Arash Amel to write the script. The film is not being called a prequel, which had been rumored for the past few years. But clearly Warner Bros sees more room to roam on a film that grossed $584 million worldwide. The original film is based on the novel by Richard Matheson.

Smith won’t commit until the script is ready and no word yet on where I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence stands on the whole thing. The other quandary is this: If it isn’t a prequel, how to get past Smith’s character’s demise at the first film’s end? A sequel would seem easier if the actor chooses not to return since you could bring in a new protagonist. Of course, if I Am Legend had gone with the original (and better) ending where Neville survives, they wouldn’t have to jump through hoops to revive the character.

4. Michael Bay to Direct TRANSFORMERS 4; Opens on June 29, 2014

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Paramount Pictures announced that director Michael Bay has signed a two-picture deal with the studio, which will commence this spring with the filming of Pain and Gain, and will be followed by the next installment in the hit Transformers franchise.

Based on a true story, Pain and Gain follows a group of bodybuilders who engaged in a campaign of kidnapping, extortion and murder in Florida. First told in an article from the Miami New Times, Pain and Gain, will be directed by Bay and will star Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Following Pain and Gain, Bay will bring audiences a new take on the Transformers franchise as he begins production on the fourth installment in the hit series of movies based on the best-selling Hasbro toyline. The third, and most recent installment of the franchise, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, is the fourth highest global grossing film of all time with 1.24 billion dollars of worldwide box office success.

Directed by Bay, the movie will re-unite the filmmaking team from the hit franchise, including producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto and Ian Bryce; and executive producers Steven Spielberg, Bay, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. Paramount Pictures will release the film on June 29th, 2014.

5. Michael Fassbender to Star in Celtic Warrior Cuchulainn Film

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Coming off a banner year with stellar turns in films as varied as Shame and X-Men: First Class, Michael Fassbender is beginning to plot out the road ahead. He’s already set to reteam with Shame director Steve McQueen for the slavery-centered period pic Twelve Years a Slave, and we recently heard that he may take the lead in Ridley Scott’s adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy screenplay The Counselor.

Now Variety reports that Fassbender is developing a project of his own: an epic featuring the legendary Celtic warrior Chuchulainn. The hero is a mythological character that appears in the Ulster Cylce, a series of epic Old Irish legends that first appeared in the 8th century. Fassbender, himself an Irishman, is developing the pic with screenwriter Ronan Bennett (Public Enemies) and plans to star as the warrior.

The saga is set in the northern part of Ireland and will center on Chuchulainn, a man with semi-divine ancestry who possesses superhuman fighting skills. Chuchulainn is often compared to the Greek god Achilles in that both were fierce warriors who died young. There’s no word on what story specifically Fassbender plans to tell, but there’s a bevy of material in the Ulster Cylce to mine from.

6. BAD SANTA 2 Will Shoot This Fall for Christmas 2013 Release

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
A sequel to Bad Santa 2 has been rumored for a while now, but things picked up last summer when Billy Bob Thornton signed on to reprise his role as the worst Santa Claus ever. Last summer Dimension Films had commissioned two different scripts for the sequel, separately by Johnny Rosenthal and John Phillips. Now it appears the studio has picked the winning script, as Thornton recently revealed that they’re on track to shoot the sequel this fall.

Thornton recently gave an update on Bad Santa 2 to the good folks over at The Playlist: “The writer is still working on the script, he’s doing his rewrite right now. We saw the first draft and we just had a few little things we wanted to take away or add and he’s doing that. The plan is to shoot that in the fall”

Thornton went on to add that they’re eyeing a Christmas 2013 release for the film. The actor will next co-write and direct the “ethereal” road movie And Then We Drove, which is partly inspired by Thornton’s tumultuous relationship with ex-wife Angelina Jolie.

7. Emma Watson to Star in Guillermo Del Toro's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
One of the many, many projects currently on director Guillermo del Toro’s plate is an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Del Toro said last summer that he’d love for Harry Potter actress Emma Watson to star. Now it appears that the pic has firmed up quite a bit, as Variety reports that Bridget Jones’s Diary scribe Andrew Davies has been tapped to write the script and Watson is in final negotiations to star in the Warner Bros. pic.

The plan is for del Toro to write a treatment, which Davies will then work off of for the script. When the project was initially conceived, del Toro stated his intention to keep the period setting of the original story. No word on whether or not that has changed.

Del Toro is currently busy filming Pacific Rim, so it will likely be a while before he can devote himself to Beauty and the Beast full time. Hopefully Davies can get to work on the script while del Toro finishes up post-production on Pacific Rim. Having wrapped the Harry Potter franchise, Watson is next set to reteam with Potter director David Yates on Your Voice in My Head.

8. Brian Taylor to Write and Direct TWISTED METAL Movie

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Brian Taylor, one half of the directing team behind the Crank franchise and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, has been tapped to write and direct an adaptation of the video game Twisted Metal. Deadline reports that the film will revolve around the underground death fights from the game series, as weaponized cars race for the proprietor Calypso, “a string-puller dedicated to examining the human condition.” Fan favorites like Sweet Tooth and Doll Face are poised to appear in the feature film.

Taylor and his directing partner Mark Neveldine are known for their active directing style, in which they hook themselves up to rigs and wires in order to get in-your-face camera angles. A Twisted Metal adaptation already has the makings of an insane moviegoing experience, but with Taylor onboard it’s safe to say that we’ll be in for one hell of a ride. Avi Arad is set to produce the pic for Sony Pictures.

9. Jaden Smith's Costume in M. Night Shyamalan's AFTER EARTH

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
A couple days ago we got our first really good look at set photos for M. Night Shyamalan's secretive sci-fi project, After Earth. Click HERE to see the full image.

Previously titled 1000 A.E., the film is set 1000 years in the future and centers on a young boy navigating an abandoned and sometimes scary Earth to save himself and his estranged father after their ship crashes. Will Smith stars alongside his son Jaden. The film also stars Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo, and Isabelle Fuhrman. After Earth opens June 7th, 2013.

12. Michael Mann in Talks to Direct Cop Thriller THE BIG STONE GRID

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Michael Mann has added another project to his development pile. Deadline reports that Mann is now in talks to direct the cop thriller The Big Stone Grid for Sony Pictures. The script, by S. Craig Zahler, is described as “a hard-edged thriller in the vein of Seven and Marathon Man,” and centers on two detectives who uncover an extortion ring operating within the secret underbelly of New York City. Michael De Luca (Moneyball) is onboard as producer, and the plan now is for Mann to do a pass on the script with Zahler. The film chronicles the 1960s battle between Ford and Ferrari when an American car won the Le Mans race for the first time in history. No word on how soon production may begin. Mann is also developing an adaptation of Agincourt which centers on the 15th century battle of Agincourt, and the contemporary adventure film Gold.

13. Gael Garcia Bernal Set as Lead in Futuristic ZORRO REBORN

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
20th Century Fox has finally settled on its lead in their upcoming Zorro reboot Zorro Reborn. Variety reports that Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries) is attached to play the Spanish swordsman. The film is a fresh take on material that was most recently mined in Martin Campbell’s The Mask of Zorro and The Legend of Zorro. As we previously reported, Zorro Reborn will not take place in the classic Western setting of Mexico or California, but will instead be set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Moreover, Zorro will be less of a hero this time around, as the story paints the character as “a masked vigilante bent on revenge.”

Sony is developing its own reboot of the character with an origin story based on the 2005 novel Zorro. The script for Zorro Reborn was written by Glenn Gers (Mad Money), and Harker scribes Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. Producers are currently seeking out a director for the project. Bernal will next be seen alongside Will Ferrell in the Spanish-language comedy Casa de mi Padre.

14. Kyle Chandler Joins Kathryn Bigelow’s "KILL BIN LADEN"

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Kyle Chandler recently wrapped Ben Affleck’s 1970s hostage film Argo, he’s set to star opposite Russell Crowe and Mark Wahlberg in the political thriller Broken City, and now he’s poised to join Kathryn Bigelow’s follow-up to her Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker. Deadline reports that Chandler has joined the fantastic ensemble for Bigelow’s untitled drama (formerly Kill Bin Laden) about the Navy SEAL team who hunted down and killed Osama Bin Laden. Chandler will be playing a CIA agent in the pic, which boasts an impressive cast that includes Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, Chris Pratt, Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, and Edgar Ramirez.

Production on the Mark Boal-scripted untitled drama should be getting underway soon, as the pic is set for release this December. The film was already in development before the assassination of Bin Laden, and Bigelow and Boal quickly reworked the ending of the script to reflect the real life event. In addition to this film, Chandler also has the possible Friday Night Lights movie on the horizon.

15. Gillian Jacobs Joins Impressive Cast of BURT WONDERSTONE

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Director Don Scardino (30 Rock) has rounded up an impressive cast for Burt Wonderstone: Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Olivia Wilde, Steve Buscemi, Brad Garrett, and James Gandolfini among others. According to THR, you can add Community star Gillian Jacobs to the list. The story centers on a Vegas magician (Carell) who is upstaged by a hipper illusionist (Carrey) that draws a crowd with a more dangerous show. Shooting is underway in Las Vegas. We have seen quite a few photos from the set (click here and here), and result looks to be as kooky and colorful as you could hope for from a comedy about Vegas magicians.

Jacobs plays a woman who hooks up with Carell after meeting at one of his shows. This is a quick reunion for the pair, who recently filmed Seeking a Friend for the End of the World together. Seeking a Friend opens on June 22.

16. GALAXY QUEST Director Dean Parisot to Helm RED Sequel

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
About a month after getting confirmation from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura that Red 2 is a go, it looks like the project has found a director. Variety reports that Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) is in final talks with the studio to helm the follow-up to the $90 million domestic grossing original. Parisot counts the 1999 cult film, Galaxy Quest to his directorial credits as well as numerous TV shows.

Starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich, the original Red (Retired. Extremely Dangerous.) followed a retired black-ops agent (Willis) as he reassembled his former team in an effort to flush out an assassin. While the original writers Jon and Erich Hoeber are back for the rewrite, there’s no word on when (or if) the original cast could reunite for the sequel.

17. Kaare Andrews to Direct CABIN FEVER: PATIENT ZERO

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
One of the two Cabin Fever prequels is almost ready to shoot, as director Kaare Andrews (Altitude) is in final talks to helm the project. The first prequel, Cabin Fever: Patient Zero will trace the roots of the deadly virus witnessed in the 2002 original directed by Eli Roth. The plot will follow passengers aboard a cruise ship in the Caribbean as they deal with an outbreak of the virus following a collision with an abandoned research vessel. Andrews will direct from a screenplay by Jake Wade Wall (The Hitcher) and filming will take place in the Dominican Republic.

Best known for his work in the world of comics, Andrews grew up shooting Super 8 films, much like Cabin Fever-director, Roth. Andrews has previously worked on Marvel Comics’ “The Incredible Hulk,” “Ultimate X-Men” and “Spider-Man: Reign,” and is currently drawing up covers for the Ultimate line. His feature debut was the high-flying horror movie, Altitude released in 2010 by Anchor Bay. Currently, he has an entry in alphabetical horror anthology, ABC’s of Death; his entry is entitled, V is for Vagitus.

Cabin Fever: Patient Zero is expected to pave the way for the second prequel, Cabin Fever: Outbreak. That story, written by Adam and Deborah Marcus (Leatherface 3D), tells the story of a doctor and his family who investigate a flu outbreak on a Caribbean island. Not surprisingly, they encounter the flesh-eating virus and are tasked with preventing a global epidemic. Though the prequels are expected to shoot back-to-back, there are no reports yet as to whether or not Andrews is attached for both films.

18. Jamie Blackley Lands Co-Lead in 300: BATTLE OF ARTEMISIA

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Production on the 300 follow-up 300: Battle of Artemisia must be looming closer, as director Noam Murro has cast two leads in the pic. Last week we learned that Sullivan Stapleton had landed a lead in the film, and now Deadline reports that Jamie Blackley is set in another lead role. Blackley will play Calisto, “a teen whose desire to become the heroic man/soldier his father was leads the 16 year old to become a leader of a small band of soldiers.” Since the film centers around the Battle of Artemisia, it was assumed that the two leads would be Themistocles (who lead the Greeks) and Xerxes (who led the Persians).

Given the news of Blackley’s casting, it appears a good portion of the film will center around some of the younger soldiers. Battle of Artemisia isn’t necessarily a sequel or prequel to 300, as the events in the film take place at the same time as the events in 300. Eva Green is also set to star. Blackley had a small role in London Boulevard opposite Colin Farrell and recently wrapped the lead in the Bryan Singer-produced uwantme2killhim?. Blackley will next be seen in Snow White and the Huntsman.

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS and DESCENDANTS Pick up Writers Guild Awards

THR reports that the Writers Guild of America has awarded Woody Allen for Best Original Screenplay for Midnight in Paris, and Alexander Payne and Nat Faxon & Jim Rash picked up the award for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Descendants. Midnight in Paris beat out 50/50, Bridesmaids, Win Win, and Young Adult. The Descendants won out over The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Help, Hugo, and Moneyball.

If you’re wondering who’s going to win in the screenplay competitions at this year’s Academy Awards, the WGA has made some safe bets even safer. The Descendants doesn’t have a serious contender in the Best Adapted Screenplay category. Original Screenplay is a bit trickier since The Artist is in there.
