That's not enough to retire. I want to live where I am at now. That will carry me like ten years max, assuming I already have a large sum saved.

I would retire to the mens room. I wipe my ass with 500k!

I'd probably spend quite a while in eastern european cities and the occasional trip to thailand. Hot and cheap chicks FTW.

That is just my size son.....that is just my size!

[QUOTE=gdd99;23937983]If you had $500,000, and you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

I was thinking of these places in no particular order:

ecuador- Shitty place to live......
uruguay- same
Thailand-Lots of aids, lots of he-shes and theft is high. Shitty air.
Vietnam-Shitty air, humid, dangerous
Brazil-depends on where you live, but dangerous. Hide your money in the light sockets. Nice place to visit, not to retire.

you know what I dont think you know what you are talking about. All those places you said can be very dangerous for some american to just roll out and setup shop. Although they are beautiful places, they also are very dangerous. 500k to retire might not even be enough

Costa Rica. You can easilt live well on 20k per year in Costa Rica, and if you have the money you aren't spending now invested, you will be set for life.

To imigrate to Costa Rica you have to show a certain level of income, but it is much lower than 500k. I think it was either 50k in savings or an income of 7k per year for retirement. Have to check up on that though. They have a special visa class just for this.

I don't have 500K right now but I'm working on it and I might possibly make the goal investing in stocks.

The area I'm in right now in USA, I don't find particularly safe and I tend not to go out at night. I'm quite sure most of those cities don't have 100+ murders per year like the cities here in the USA.

You are probably right that ecuador is a shitty place to live. I spend all my time on the internet right now, though. I hate to be called a "gringo" everywhere I go, though. That's the one thing that would worry me.

I spend about $5000/yr on food, medicine right now. That doesn't include utilities so maybe about $8000 year on everything.

If I spent $100,000 on a house.

8000 x 30yrs = 240,000.

And if I possibly invested maybe 250,000 - 300,000 of it into a 15 % CD, I don't see any reason why I couldn't retire with 500K in ecuador or another cheap country. I think you are underestimating it. Of course, this doesn't include any disasters.

I have a feeling that this is going to happen and that is why I made the thread. Whichever I place I choose, I will spend at least a week there to see how it is. Of course, yeah, it will have to be a place with full medical supplies as I said, I have bad sinuses.

Is houses cheap in Canada ? I didn't want to spend more than $100,000. Maybe I could find a cheap house in Canada. I don't have a family so a one bedroom house would be fine.
