Is wrestling better than BJJ?

I have been hearing more and more sherddogers say that regular wrestling is better than bjj if the wrestler is aware of subs. I am not sure how true this is when we see a guy like Matt Hughes have so much trouble with BJJ guys. I think wrestling gets the dec. more than BJJ because it emphasizes top control so people automatically think its better.

They're both good. I do both, but wrestling only occasionally. If you wanna be 1337 at MMA you should do no-gi bjj, wrestiling and muay thai. That is my opinion anyway.

I partly agree, but since BJJ is more complete they have an advantage in the beginning of their carreer. If you don't cross train you are doomed to fail anyway.

BJJ is more applicable, but the quality of wrestling in many places (such as the U.S.) is higher. Your competition means a lot. If someone in Brazil wanted to go into MMA and decided to start training with the Brazilian high school wrestling team instead of going to a jiu-jitsu school he'd be crazy.

yes pretty much sums it up...both are great bases that aren't good enough on their own merits to suceed with. I think we should really stop the which style is better....it's pretty stupid.

They are both great, but not on their own. A good BJJ guy should know Wrestling. And a good Wrestler should know about Submissions to do good in MMA.
