Comments / Facts:
Ivan Hippolyte is truly one the legends of Muay Thai. In his career, which spanned several decades, he has fought all over the world and under every rule set imaginable. He has won countless titles in Muay Thai, Kickboxing and Savate and has beaten the likes of Jomhod, Rayen Simson, Changpeuk, Perry Ubeda and Krongsak. Hippo, as he is often called, is one of the very few foreigners to win a World title at the Lumpini Stadium in Thailand, beating Pompet Naratrikun by KO. Known for his tenacity and high workrate, Hippolyte can be placed alongside such muay thai legends as Kaman, Hoost, Aerts and Dekkers. Speaking of Dekkers, for years many speculated how a fight between the two would unfold. Unfortunately it never materialized, but looking at both their fighting styles, it would have been a war! Hippolyte retired from the fight game in 2000, after fighting Rayen Simson for the second time. After having lost their first encounter, Hippo was out for revenge. Not surprisingly, it was a thrilling, back-and-forth fight, but in the end Hippo was victorious for the 69th and final time. A perfect end to the career of one of the best Muay Thai fighters of all time.
A true Muay Thai legend!
Ivan Hippolyte was the first foreigner to win the WMTC world title in Lumpinee stadium.
Hippolyte was called the undisputed middleweight champion when he won the WMTC title and the K-3 Middleweight World GP in 1995.
