Why are UFC fighters told to hug their seconds before a fight?

I've noticed that before every fighter steps into the Octagon he's told to hug his corner guys. They literally stop the fighter and tell him to go and hug his team... Anyone know why they do this? It irks me.

um im pretty sure it's a choice the fighters make rather than some sanctioned aspect of the entrance/ examination by the official as your description makes it out to be, ts.

i dont see what the big deal is. these guys are about to go into a hellacious fight and theyre hugging the people who have supported them and helped them prepare as an acknowledgement of their contribution and a means for them to wish the fighter good luck.

So Phil Nurse can't sneakily rub grease all over them after they've taken their shirt off.

No dude I've seen the cornerman applying vaseline outside of the cage literally stop the fighter and make them turn around and at least acknowledge their corner when they weren't going to do it, it's super weird and I was wondering the same thing myself.

It's a post-Greasegate thing. The ref basically says, "If you want to give your corner guys a hug and a kiss, do it now, because it's your last chance (at least until after the first round).

Ah, thanks. I was wondering why the guys were telling them to hug their corners if they didn't want too. Also, I have nothing against fighters hugging their corners. <3
