Thiago Silva Issued Punishment From Commission for Failed UFC 125 Drug Test
After having his B-Sample confirm what his A-Sample already indicated, Thiago Silva finally admitted to taking steroids prior to his UFC 125 unanimous decision “win” over Brandon Vera. Today, the Nevada State Athletic Commission heard the Brazilian’s case and handed down his punishment.
As expected, Silva’s victory was overturned to a ‘No Contest’ and he was issued a year-long suspension. Silva was also fined 25 percent of his $55,000 ‘Show’ purse and $20K of his $55,000 win bonus.
In all, Silva was docked $33,750. However, he still took home $76,250 for his performance, 35K of which comes courtesy of his Win-turned-No-Contest bonus.
According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Silva admitted guilt right from the jump. He then went on to reveal more information about his cheating ways than any other professional athlete has ever done, right down to the website where he purchased the fake urine from – Cleartest.com, just in case you’re in need. However, their products appear to be unreliable.
“I want to apologize. My back was very bad and I was desperate. I was broke. I have family that depends on me,” Silva stated.
The light heavyweight claims his doctor gave him two injections in all, 30 and 45 days before their New Year’s Day fight.
Silva said he poured the fake urine into the test bottle while in a bathroom stall. According to the slugger, a NSAC inspector was standing right behind him while he was submitting his drug test.
Vera was released by the world’s biggest MMA promotion following the “loss,” however UFC president quickly rehired the Filipino-American after Silva’s issues came to light.

Shame he picked the Vera match to cheat in. He would've beaten Vera's ass regardless of steroids, Vera didnt even try.

I'm a fan of Silva regardless of this situation. The guy is usually classy and he always comes to fight. It's going to suck not seeing him fight for a year, but I'm glad he has been nothing short of brutally honest.
